Magic and Insanity

Vampires are real. No, not the glittery ones, but drink your blood Vampires. They are hidden in every community and no one is safe. I knew they existed from being a witch but they are fact, but i didn't realize how close they were until one fateful night that changed my world. How do I know this? I found out by accident one stormy night when my car decided to not work and I had to walk home from work. I had to show who I really was to protect myself and those around me. As the rain came down I walked home and about halfway there I noticed a person across the road matching my pace. Have you ever got the feeling you were being stalked? 

As I walked past a local gas station a guy who was walking towards me turned around and put his arm over my shoulder whispering, "You are in danger. I will walk with you to keep you safe, but you have been marked."

"How can I know you are not with the guy there?" I asked.

Chuckling he said, "You don't but I can assure you I am not."

"What is he?" I asked.

"Funny question for someone who is being hunted," He said.

"Well I am not a normal gal," I said. Pulling out my witches amulet from under my shirt. We walked until we got to the park and the rain finally stopped. I said, "To bad I don't have my swords on me. He could use a good silver slice to the head."

"You realized what he was before I even came upon you?" He said, "Then you know what I am as well?"

"Oh course," I said. "But your aura is quite different from his. I was hoping to get to my house first to grab my sword, I really do not like to use my magic if I do not have to. You are different though a vampire that kills his own kind."

"Well," He said. "Lets just say I am only killing them because I never wanted to be one."

"Makes sense," I said. "He has also crossed over and is heading toward us."

"How far is your home?" He asked.

"Another mile," I said. "I guess its plan B. If you don't want to be involved I would run now."

Walking to a more secured and blocked position under the tree I waited for the vampire following me. As he walked under the tree's I said, "You are only getting one chance to leave after that I will not warn you again."

He looked over at my walking companion and said, "We can share her."

Walking over to a bench he said, "Nah man I do not eat the good ones."

The vampire walked closer to me and said, "I promise I will make it fast. Your smell is intoxicating."

Chuckling I said, "Well isn't that a pick up line and a half. I mean seriously watching a certain vampire movie lately. Remember when your dying that I did warn you."

I flicked my wrist and vines climbed up his legs and held him in place. Another two vines came down from the trees and secured his arms. Walking over to him I said, "Who is your sire?"

He spat at me saying, "Why do you need to know that. What are you?"

"Surprised huh?" I said. "I really didn't want to kill you. You could have walked away at any time. Now again who is your sire?"

"Why do you need to know," He asked.

"Because I need to know where to send your head." I said taking a few steps back.

"Murdoc will avenge me," He cried.

Looking over at my walking companion, "Do you know where to find him?"

"I sure do!" He said, "I will even ship the head for you."

"That's all I needed to know," I said walking back up to him. "But first I want to know who I am avenging. Stay still this will not hurt much."

He started to struggle as I touched his hand. I saw decades of murders including that of children. Stepping back I looked at him and said, "Innocent children, Young or Old, Man or Woman. You really did not have a type did you. Well you do not need to worry about that now. I am sure when you get to hell they will be there ready to help you head for your punishment."

Walking away I snapped my fingers. A vine came down from the tree and wrapped around his neck. I spread my fingers a bit and the vines tightened and started to pull and stretch the creature. Standing up from the table my companion said, "A little old school. I mean not bad."

"Well," I said. " I have to work with what I have." Snapping my fingers the Vampires head popped off."

Turning to my companion I said, "Here I always keep a garbage bag with me."

Taking the bag he said, "What about the rest?"

"Oh that's easy," I sad snapping my fingers again. The earth opened up and dragged the body into it. The ground came back together and I continued. "They just redid this area and will not be messing with the earth for about another ten years. Also when the magic happened any and all security cameras within a mile started glitching. Well I guess its time to head home. Shall we?"

We walked toward my home and he said, "You should be more careful. If that low level vampire caught your scent you have to have a powerful scent."

Laughing I said, "Do you have a stuffy nose? Why could he smell my scent and not you?"

He groaned and said, "I caught your scent 3 days ago. You have a very strong magical scent. Its making my head loopy."

I rolled my eyes and turned on my block and headed to the end of the road. About halfway down I groaned and stopped. When I did so did my companion. He looked up and asked, "What's wrong?"

I looked at him and said, "My ex is here. I do not have the energy to deal with him tonight he is still pissed I broke off our engagement."

"May I ask why you broke it off?" He asked.

"Sure he is a Mamas boy who will never amount to anything. I broke it off when his mom demanded we give her a Grandchild right away." I said sighing. "I am not ready for a child yet."

"So what do you need to me to do," He asked. He grabbed me and pulled me close and said, "I got you. Don't kill me please."

We walked up to my gate and he pulled me intimately close to him and he pulled my head down to make it look like he was kissing me. As he turned me towards my house my ex fiance got out of his car and said, "Ellie what are you doing with him you belong to me."

Christo swung me away from him and said, "Woah mate this lovely creature is mine. You are old news and Ellie and me are spending time together. I know all about you mate and this lass has moved on to bigger and better things."

My ex looked at Christo and said, "Do you know who I am?"

Christo laughed and said, "The guy she dumped."

My ex laughed and said, "My name is Shawn Dupree and my family runs everything in this town. I will destroy you both."

I got between them and said, "Shawn your family owns a few businesses some which are failing due to poor management. If it wasn't for your parents you couldn't even tie your own shoes. Its been a very long day and we want to go inside have dinner and relax. Do you mind leaving or I will be forced to call the police again."

Christo joined me and we walked up the pathway to the house. I unlocked the door and we walked in as Christo asked, "May I ask how long you were with him?"

Looking at him I said, "Four very long and tiring years. His mom demanding a Grandchild was not the only reason why I wanted to end it. He scoffed at magic and told me I would have to give it up when we got married. He decided he would move in and make changes immediately to the house. He also started to demand I stop writing books and be ready to do anything and everything he required of me."

Christo's head raised as he said, "You work as a bar maid, but your a writer?"

"A blogger as well on all things supernatural and weird," I pointed to a glass case in the corner full of books. "I am a self publish writer and those are my books and the awards I have received from them. I get bored and that's the reason I work as a bartender a few nights a week. I inherited this home and a lot of money when I graduated high school from my Grandma. WIth his families business failing I believe thats why his mom tried to demand Grandchildren right away. Keep me and my money around. FUnny thing is this wedding would not have taken place unless he signed a prenup."

"That's why you live here?" He said.

"I like to live a simple life." I said. "Because of being a powerful witch I like to keep my circle small. I like to go out to the state forest and fish, forage and be in nature. I like to travel and see parts of Florida which are not on any tourist map. My kind of people don't age like the others. I am 24 but look 18 and it is slowing down more. My Grandmother died because someone cut her head off. My parents were killed in a car accident. I am not immune to death but my kind live for thousands of years. I am literally just a  baby and just starting my journey in the world."

Christo looked at me and said, "I have heard of your kind and your a very rare gem. Ellie I have a proposition for you. Let me be your companion and stay here. I promise there will be no changes made to your life, I will accompany you if you wish on your travels or just be a body guard no strings attached unless you want strings. That should help with your issue with him outside. You know he is still out there."

I looked out the curtain and saw that shawn was sitting outside the house still, I took out my phone and called the non emergency line, "Hi Max I am glad your on tonight. Shawn will not leave. He caught me when I walked home from work with my boyfriend and I told him to leave and he is parked partially in my driveway again."

I hung up and said to Christo, "What do you get out of this?"

He sat at the kitchen table and said, "Ellie I have been around since Roanoke. The village didn't leave they were either ate of turned by vampires and went inland. I was found a week later eating a deer by a local shamen who had helped me. I lost my wife during the attack and I want peace. Like I said we can be friends or more if you want it up to you."

Looking it him I asked for his hand and said, "This will not hurt I want to see your memories and history."

I took his hand and closed my eyes. I saw flashes of his human life and the massacre. I saw his wife pregnant as she was murdered and his life. I felt his pain and sadness and his aura at the end. I opened my eyes and said, "I agree as for now, friends."

He brightened and said, "Later tomorrow I will move my belongings to here."

I stood up and looked in the fridge and said, "Do you eat human food?"

Chuckling he said, "Yes believe it or not vampires actually still eat and can be partially sustained by human food."

"Good to know," I said. 

"Why do you ask?" He said.

Sighing I closed the door to the fridge and opened the freezer as I said, "I am trying to decide on dinner."

I looked in the freezer and found a pack of frozen hamburger patties and said, "I hope you like hamburgers and french fried thats about all I want to cook tonight."

He walked over and saw the hamburgers and said, "What can I do to help?"

Grabbing the bag of fries out of the freezer I said, "Cut that onion in to slices so I can grill them to go on the burgers. I am starving and when my magic is used I get even more hungry. When I go on a spell binge I normally will hit up the chinese buffet after wards or buy enough fast food to break the bank."

"My my little witch your in luck," Christo said. "I might be a vampire but I love to cook. So I am guessing you want these four burgers cooked and loaded with onions and cheese right. Plus french fries and I see your fryer so how about this. Take this bag of chips and go take a bath while I cook us up dinner?"

Looking at Christo, I grabbed the bag of chips and  I said, "I think I may enjoy you being here."

Heading up the stairs I turned to watch his gaze following me. Would it be so bad to start a relationship with him. I headed up the stairs and grabbed some clothes from my room. Going into my bathroom and started a bath. After climbing in I realized that being so close to him had also awoken my witch lust. This would have to be kept in check as this has not been awoken in a long time. Even Shawn was never even able to wake up this part of me. Christo only had to hold me once and I was ready to pounce. 

I ate some chips and relaxed in the tub with my eyes closed until I heard, "Ellie this is your five minute warning and food will be ready and plated. What do you want on your burgers?"

Chuckling i called out, "Mayo Ketchup and pickles."

I climbed out of the tub and got dressed. After drying my hair I headed downstairs. I followed the smell of food to the table and saw the burger loaded up and the fries in a big bowl in the center of the table. Looking at Christo I said, "Am I dreaming this looks so good."

He chuckled as he pulled out my chair and said, "No Ellie its dinner and I am starved as well lets eat."

I sat down and grabbed a fry out of the bowl and started to chew, "Ohh the perfect amount of salt."

"Well you know," Christo said. "After being alive for a few hundred years I got cooking down."

Nodding towards the head at the front door I said, "What are we gonna do with that thing?"

Christo said, "In the morning when we wake up I will send it via a mythical creature currier service."

"Fay?" I said.

He chuckled and said, "Yup."

We ate for a bit and he asked, "Ellie I need to ask how active are you in the otherworldly goings on."

I sighed and said, "I try to live as a human but I took over my Grams role in the community when she passed."

"May I ask what position your Grandma held," He asked.

"Sheriff," I said. "I meet at a local cabin once a week to go over issues within the community. All creatures are welcome."

"When is your next meeting and may I join you?" He asked.

I smiled, "Of course you can join me! My car should be ready tomorrow I am going to pick it up around 11am."

"I will admit I would like a further relationship with you but I respect your wishes to go snails pace slow and be friends for now," He said.

"I appreciate that," I said. "This food is so good. I was not joking about my magic making me hungry. But I do need to ask how do you source your blood?"

"Its a valid question," He said. "I would like to say I do not drink human blood. However I have a friend at a blood bank who gets me a supply."

Giggling I said, "So a capri sun for vampires?"

He shook his head laughing and said, "Pretty much."

We continued to eat and talk and I looked at the clock and said, "Wow I did not realize it was almost 3am."

"Past your bedtime," He teased.

"Well not really but after tonight I am feeling tired and I do have to get some sleep as I was going to spend the day writing before I went to pick up my car." I said. "There is a bedroom downstairs that you can use for now. It was the room i would stay in when I visited Grams. I took over the main suite when she was killed."

"Thank you Ellie you will not regret me staying here," He said. "If your going to bed how about this, Do you have a spare key I can use I am going to go get my few belongings and head back here before you wake up."

I went to my desk and grabbed the spare house key and handed it to him. "After I boke up with Shawn I had new locks put on the house. That is my only spare key so do not lose it."

He saluted me and headed out of the house. When he left I put what was left of the dishes away and noticed he washed as he cooked. I was surprised as shawn made big messes even if he made cereal. I headed up to bed and soon fell into a deep sleep. I woke to my alarm going off at 9am and jumped in the shower. When I got downstairs I saw the door to the room Christo was using was closed. I started some coffee and set my laptop on the table. I called the bar I was working at and confirmed I would be off the rest of the week and then called the repair shop and they confirmed my car would be ready by 11am as they were finishing the testing of the repair now. 

When I was getting ready to leave Christo came our of the room and mumbled, "Morning."

I laughed and said, "Your not a morning person are you?"

Chuckling he said, "I got back around 5am and then sent off our gift to Murdoc. The fay who picked it up was a wonderful chap who insisted on talking about the old days. I couldn't say no as that would have been rude. He said he was going to leave the package on the desk and poof out before anyone saw him."

"Well," I said. "Won't that be a surprise. I am heading to go pick up my car and run a few errands."

"Do you want company?" He asked.

"Can you be ready in about five minutes that's when the Uber will be here," I said.

"Sure," He said as he flashed into his room and appeared wearing a new outfit."

"I showered this morning," He said. "So what kind of errand do we need to do?"

"After I get my car I am heading to the Dollar tree first," I said. "When I have the meetings I always bring a basket or three of kids items in case kids come to them. Normally coloring books and small toys. It makes the experience a lot better for them and all kids no matter what age they are love to color. I also make little packs of hygienic items as there are a bit of homeless in the area of the cabin and meeting place. Its a good things to help others."

"Wow that is a great idea," he said.

"After that I need to run to lowes to pick up some stuff for my garden, When I broke it off with shawn he took his temper out on my greenhouse. After that food shopping at publix."

"Sounds like a plan and I believe this is the Uber pulling up," He said.

We walked to meet the uber after locking the house and headed to the car dealership and Christo said, "I believe someone is following us."

We got to the car repair shop and waited our turn in line. As we were talking to the owner he looked up and said, "Ellie love I hate to be the bearer of bad news but guess who walked in?"

"I see her in the mirror," I said as I put my arm around Christos waist and said, "Christo I do not know about you but I am so tired."

Ben smirked and said, "You sassy lass you. I will see you at the meeting. Christo it was great to meet you finally and I am sure I will be seeing you there as well."

Christo put his hand out and said, "Good to meet you Ben. Thank you for figuring out what was wrong with Ellies car."

We turned to leave and standing behind me was Susan, Shawns Mom. She looked at me and went to slap me when I caught her hand and said, "Susan I will call the police if you try that again."

"You fucking whore," SHe said. "You broke up with my son to get with him."

Standing in front of Christo I said, "Susan I broke up with your son because he is a underrated Mamas boy. He did not want to work, He wanted me to raise him and support him. You demanded a Grandchild because your families businesses are failing and you wanted the money my Grams left me."

"Our business's are doing fine," She yelled.

"Really thats why Michael asked me for a loan the day before I ended it with shawn and when I said I would need to see financial documents he refused," I said. "Sorry sweetie you have no power around here anymore. Now we have things to do so you have a good day."

We walked out and headed to my car. After we got in Christo asked, "What is her problem?"

"She knows when I broke up with Shawn she lost her meal ticket," I said. "I had one of our people check into it and they are seriously hemorrhaging money left and right. The only thing that they own clear is the home they live in and it is in desperate need of repairs. If they do not handle their shit they will lose that as well."

"So Ben," Christo said. "I felt his aura is different but I cannot place it."

"Did you notice his height?" I asked.

"No," He said. 

"You wouldn't he has a platform behind the counter," I said. 

"He is a dwarf," Christo said. "How could I miss that?"

"I may have done him a solid when we met and placed a glamor charm on him and his family," I said. "Helps him keep from people being dicks."

"So true," He said. "So Dollar tree next?"

"I am going to wait and do lowes first," I said. "I need new plants and seeds as Shawn destroyed a bunch. Thankfully he could not get to the rare plants but my herbs and vegetables were goners. I already cleaned the beds and holders now I just need to replant everything."

"Well lets see what you can find," He said as we parked. He got out of the car and walked around to open the door.

"Thank you," I said.

I grabbed a big cart and headed inside. When we got inside I found all the seeds I needed and found some mushroom starters. As I was looking at some potting racks I found a new hydroponic tower and grabbed two. When I came across potatoes onion and garlic bulbs I grabbed new ones to plant. When I walked out to the live plants I breathed in and said, "Now to the fun stuff."

Christo wrapped me in a hug and said, "You have a glow going on."

"Well shit," I said. "That is going to be a problem."

"What is causing it?" He asked as we walked to the corner with small pots.

"Embarrassing to say actually," I said. "But I am relaxed and you have awoken my witch lust. Normally I keep it in check but it has been a long while since it reared it head."

"When did it start?" He asked. 

"When you pulled me in your arms last night," I said. "Problem is there is only one way to take care of it and I said snails pace."

He chuckled and said, "So you glow and what else"

"My magic will flare and I will be able to do some stuff that I would not normally do," I said.

"Such as," He asked. He looked up and said, "Wow its raining."

"Yeah it is," I said. "While there is not a cloud in site."

"Oh shit," He said. "Thats you?"

"Guilty," I said. "There is more."

"Such as?" He asked.

"You might feel the lust pull you to me," I said. "I can almost guarantee the stringer it gets the stronger of a pull you will feel."

He said, "Lets buy some plants like a bunch of old people."

We walked out into the rain and it slowly stopped. I picked out about thirty plants and we paid and went to the car. I looked at Christo and said, "Its to warm to keep the plants in the car. I think we need to go home first to unload all of this."

We got to the house and unloaded my car. I grabbed my purse and put it on the table. Going into the green house I sat on my stool and closed my eyes. Contemplating everything I sighed and thought what was I afraid of. If i took this step it would mean we were more than friends and he would feel my emotions. I did not need to open my eyes as I felt him in the doorway to the greenhouse and said, "If we give in to the pull it would change everything. Not just for me but for you. Witches only get one freebie when it comes to the lust. After that you are joined and there will always be a connection. If you ever decide to go your own way you will always feel what I feel."

"I understand," He said. "Maybe its what we need. I am not saying lets jump in with both feet but we are both creatures that will live until we are sent to our deaths. I knew of you before I met you. The first time I caught your scent I knew you were different." 

I opened my eyes and raised my hand and summoned a book from the library. It opened to the page I wanted him to see and held out the book. It explained everything about the lust and the bond. He read it and said, "Understood."

Sighing I said, "I am dizzy. Maybe it was because I was up late last night and got very little sleep."

"How about this," He said. "You go lay down for a bit its only 1pm. I will stay in the garden and put your hydroponic planters together. I will also get the the log outside ready for your mushrooms and bring it in."

"You sure," I asked.

"Yes Ellie," He said. "Go lay down I will check on you in a bit."

Walking to my room I stripped down to my bra and panties and laid in my bed. I felt my lust building and decided I should do something to curb it. Putting music on and took out a toy from my side table to use. I put the toy on and started to play with myself. As I rub the toy over my clit I started to feel myself peak and then I felt myself have a release. I closed my eyes and realized that this did not help the lust and made it worse. Sitting up in bed I said, "Fuck this."

I grabbed a light robe and put it on as I went to open my door. Standing on the other side was Christo raising his hand to knock on the door. He saw me and pulled me to him. Crushing his mouth to mind he lifted me up and I wrapped my legs around him. He carried me into the room and shut the door behind us. He pushed me against the wall and we let fate guide us. Later that day, as we laid in my bed he said, "I guess its a good thing we both have forever huh?"

I chuckled as I said, "It is."

As my stomach growled he let out a laugh and said, "Well, how about this. We eat something and go to the stores, you have your meeting tomorrow and you are finally not glowing anymore."

"I really do not feel like cooking," I said turning to face him. "How do you feel about Tacos from the Cantina near the library?"

"Mama Liz place," He said. "Yes please. I have known Mama Liz and her family since her Grandparents owned the place. I will tell you be prepared for them to be at the meeting tomorrow. Someone keeps offering to buy their building and they are concerned as off things have been happening."

Sitting up I said, "I heard something was happening and my sources cannot get a fix on who it is. Maybe I should offer to do protection and blessing spells at the meeting for everyone who is getting bothered by the mysterious person."

He climbed out of bed and put out his hand, "Come on Ellie if we don't go we will not be leaving here at all."

"Oh and why is that Christo," I asked as i knelt on the bed.

Putting his mouth next to my ear he said in a deep voice, "Now that we have joined together I not only smell your scent but I can feel everything with you. I am sure you can feel everything with me as well and right now I want to continue with what we were doing but I understand that this will never go away. Besides we need groceries if your going to be using your magic this week and I believe we need a fully stocked pantry. We will both be shopping today."

He scooped me up and placed me on my feet. As I went to grab a sundress from my closet I asked, "Do you work?"

He laughed and said, "Yes. I freelance as a researcher. My laptop is in my room with the rest of my belongings. I am a bit old school and I will provide for us as well."

Smiling I said, "No worries I guess I have a lot to learn about you."

Laughing he said, "Same here. Now lets go see Mama Liz and get some of her amazing food."

We headed to Mama Liz place and as soon as we walked in Mama Liz walked up to me, pulling me in a hug. "Oh my sweet Ellie," She said. "I see you made a new friend."

"Mama Liz," I said. "I have missed you. You know my friend?"

She looked at both of us and took both of our hands and said, "Oh you are more than friends I see. Well this is a new and interesting development. But we can leave that alone as you are both very new to this. How about some food?"

We both said, "Yes please!"

We sat down and ordered a bunch of food which we ate. Christo took the bill to pay and Mama Liz came up and said, "He is a good man you will be very happy. I will see you Thursday at the meeting."

Hugging her I said, "I am still working on that issue."

"I know sweetie," She said. "We all trust you."

When Christo came back he asked, "We ready we have a few stores to go to."

Smiling I said, "Yes I am."
