It was an average day in my small town I had woken up had breakfast and went to work now let me promise this by saying I am so thankful that I am not married and do not have children because if I did I don't know if I would have been able to make the same decisions that I had to to keep myself alive. The day started as it usually does my breakfast was the basic mundane bowl of cereal cup of tea and some toast I made sure I had my bag together now so you are aware I am a low-key prepper besides living in my home here in the city I do have a cabin out in the State Forest area nothing fancy two bedrooms a living room kitchen combo and a bathroom between the bedrooms and has a small basement my plan was to go there this weekend but one thing I have always made sure of is if all heck broke loose I would be able to get myself to the cabin even if it was on foot. My cabin now and my apartment are a hour and a half Drive from each other my work to the cabin is a 3-hour drive so in case of an emergency I always make sure I have snacks additional cash and a reasonable water bottle in my bag at all times not including an extra battery charger and just some random things that I might need a lighter matches a pocket knife. Going out to my car I headed over to work and this is where my perfectly ordinary normal day when sideways I waited at the security station for the security card to come check my credentials on my badge something that has always happened every day of the year and a half that I've worked here. I didn't do anything fancy for my career well let me put it like this I didn't do anything abnormal for my career I was actually a researcher for a fact gathering company if someone said something in then needed information it was my job to get the most details that I possibly could doing this Monday job has kept me calm cool and collected all my life and was what was able to get me we get all the supplies I needed for my bunker down station out in the woods.
See I was fortunate enough this cabin that I own no one knew about it was left to me by my grandparents and was part of my grandmother's aunt's Incorporated trust so even though it's legally mine it came to me via the will no one knew about it and I liked it that way I never took anyone there because to me it was my own little secret paradise I sat there thinking about the cabin while I waited for the security card to return however he didn't.
I took my phone out and dialed my manager and even my manager was not answering I sent my manager a text message with the message hey man what's going on security guard's not here and you're not answering your phone I can't get into the building to work.
I decided that I was going to wait in the lobby and if somebody didn't show up in the next 30 minutes I was going to leave I did take a selfie of me with a timestamp that showed I was there on time for work and I sat and just took out my crocheting and waited for a few so you might as well work out a gift for him waiting because I am always on time and there is always someone here.
I have been crocheting for about 15 minutes when two men in dark suits came into the building one of them looked at me and asked are you waiting to be let into
I said yeah it's odd I've been waiting to be let in for about 15 minutes now I'm always here on time for work and the security guard is not here my boss is not answering his phone then joking around I said well I guess we can wait together.
One of the two men in the suits said you know it doesn't look like they're here and it's been over 15 minutes you know legally you can go home and they stop the pay you since they did not come in time for you to work why don't you just go ahead and leave we'll cover for you we'll tell him
Something caught my eye when he said that it was as if his holding meaner had changed and he was given me a reason to leave.
I asked are you sure I'm not going to get in trouble because I know there's a rule like that but I really can't afford to lose my job.
He replied now you're good he goes trust me I know the boss he's one of my good friends I'll tell him that we told you to go home just because they didn't want to let you in
I reached into my pocket and hit the record button on my phone and I said are you sure you're not messing with me I mean even if you know the boss I'm sure he's not going to want me to go home early on a Wednesday morning.
His friend leaned over and said hey man give the girls some credit she's here she's ready to work and we're trying to send her home and she doesn't want to and the guy with him looked at him and said no no man I think she needs to go home we have her back will tell Tom that we sent her home because they didn't want to take care of his employee the right way
That struck me because if anyone knew my boss they would know Tom hates being called Tom it is always Thomas or boss man he hated Tom he said he used to get picked on by bullies when they would use the name Tom instead of Thomas I picked up my bag and said you know what guys you're right what I'm going to do is since I didn't need to get something out of my desk and they're not here yet I'm going to go to the coffee shop around the corner I'm going to go ahead and grab myself a coffee use our bathroom and do a little bit of stuff on my laptop and I'll be back later on stay when you see Tom tell him I better get paid for all the time I wasn't here because it wasn't my fault there was no one here to let me in
The guy who had originally told me to leave said you know what that is a great idea we'll tell him you better pay you you have a good time.
I went outside to my car and got in the driver's seat as I did I looked up at the windows and saw some of my co-workers pounding on the Windows screaming at me
Another thing is I also know how to read lips it's something that my cousin taught me because she's partially deaf and believe me when I say it's come in handy especially when you're cheating on testing high School I saw my co-workers screaming help me help me they're going to kill us I went to get out of my car when I heard gunshots go off and everyone that was counting on the window slumped against the window and I saw red stains.
I was in shock I couldn't believe it the people I'd worked with for years were gone then I saw the guys that were in the lobby come out each holding a gun and when they saw me they raised their weapon I put my car into gear and I sped off as fast as I could
Taking a deep breath I headed towards the nearest main road and as I was getting ready to turn onto the main road my boss Tom is called he asked hey Katie where are you
I said to Thomas what do you mean where am I I was in the lobby of the building waiting to be let in no security guard you weren't answering your phone and then two guys came into the lobby and told me I should leave and they called you Tom not Thomas and then when I go out to my car and I look at the window I see our co-workers standing at the window and their mouth yelling to me to help them and we're going to die and I'll send they're hitting the windows and there's blood stains everywhere what do you mean where am I I am running for my life and as soon as I get far enough away from this I'm calling the police and tell him everything I saw.
Tom said oh Katie I really wish you wouldn't have said that because I was trying to have you be free from this now you know they're not going to believe you
What do you mean Tom
Well Katie it's my word against Jersey said
That's where you're wrong Tom I took a timestamp of when I was in the lobby and when your friends came in something inside of me told me to record our interaction even when they told me to go ahead and leave and they would tell their good old friend Tom to go ahead and make sure I was paid for all the time I was there and then guess what Tom I have this wonderful thing called a dash cam and when all my friends and coworkers were murdered against the window and were against the window pounding and screaming for me to help them cuz they're going to die I recorded it all and the camera even caught me screaming because I was so shocked and even caught your two friends on my rear view cam running after my car with their guns raised.
Now Katie you don't want to do anything foolish he said in a low dangerous voice
Foolish I said apparently you haven't really looked into my credentials have you I mean did you even look to see where I worked before I came to work for your company you are a very foolish man Tom and speaking of I need to go ahead and call my old employer cuz they're going to be very very surprised what I have to tell and show them.
I clicked off the call and went ahead and called my old boss Max he picked up in a hot second and said hey Katie what's a shaken
Seeing to cars following me I said max I'm in trouble
He became real serious and said Katie what's going on you don't ever call and say that
Max I was heading to work today I got there on time but there was no security guards in the building and when I ate originally tried calling my boss Tom he said he never answered this oh man I am so flustered man I waited in the lobby for 15 minutes and two guys in black suits came in the one guy said they knew Tom but I know Tom he's being called Tom it's always Thomas or boss man and that they were going to tell Tom to make sure I got paid and to take the rest of the day off I recorded them I have them on audio Max and I finally something and they told me to get out of the building I went out to my car got in my car started everything up my dash cam was rolling so where my rear view cams and I looked at the window to my floor and all my coworkers were saying they're pounding on the window and I was able to read their lips they were saying help us help us we're going to die please save us about a minute later there was gunshots I saw them all hit the windows and there was blood everywhere I threw my car into gear and started heading towards the highway when his two friends came out with guns drawn I have it all in dash cam all saved then Tom called me and told me I should have just stayed home today and he didn't want to involve me in all of this and when I told him I had everything on audio and video he started with making threats and telling me no one's going to believe me Max what do I do I have two cars following me now.
He said s*** Katie do I have permission to go ahead and track you
Knowing Max was going into protocol mode I said yes please track me
I heard him start barking orders protocol 6 is now in effect we are tracking Katie messings vehicle she has just witnessed a mass murder it has people on her tail I need accurate location and I need an extraction team ready to meet her then he said really quietly Katie you need to do me a favor now you need to follow my instructions very carefully do you have someplace you can get to if we get these people off of you
I thought for a moment and said yes yes I do
He sat there for another moment instead is it set up with supplies and weapons will you be able to defend yourself if needs be
If they have a GPS tracker on my car the bill to find me but I can defend myself it would take something short of a bazooka to be able to take me down once I get there
Max asked Katie is there something you want to tell us
Oh Jesus Max not like that my parents left me from our grandparents Incorporated trust a cabin it's along the water by the state park system and to get back there it's insanely tricky most of the time I have to take a moped that I have in a locker close to the entrance of the trail and leave my car there because the path is very narrow and I don't even want to put my car through it as for being able to take anything but a bazooka well let's just say my grandfather he was prepared even back during the Cold war
Katie he said when you work for us nothing like that came up may I ask why
Chocolate I said because technically my name has been changed a few times to prevent the bad guys from finding me my grandfather may have had a few enemies and they were trying to protect me this whole time hence the reason I own the cabin in the woods now
Max let out a Hardy laugh and say Katie you never cease to amaze me after all this is said and done you do have a job back here with us again if you want it but until then let's see about getting you to this cabin to surviving how attached to you are you to your car
Well Jesus Max I just paid the thing off
Max said well I will hope to keep it intact for you but until then listen Katie I'm going to need you to get to the first vantage point so you can jump ship and you are going to have to take the walk to the cabin I know it's going to take a long while but this until I can get an extraction or someone with you this is all I can think of
If you wouldn't mind trying to keep her safe I would really appreciate it but what do you want me to go Max
