I grabbed my box of supplies and headed out to the workers' building. This job will start my career and no more overthinking anything. What I did not see was a shadow watching me from the woods. His face was sad as he watched the love of his life walk towards establishing herself.
Aunt Kathy came out and said, "Max you need to decide if she can see you. Hiding in the shadows while your still alive is tearing her apart. She can feel you near her."
He turned to her, the left side of his face cut up and scarred as he said, "I want to see her, but she will not want to be with a man who looks like me."
Aunt Kathy said, "You know, I think you could be a Zombie and she would accept you. She loves you and misses you so much, Max."
Max said, "I will watch for a while and decide."
"Well, sweetheart," She said. "You may have to reveal yourself alone. I am planning on going south soon enough. Keep hiding in the Men's retreat. She may hop buildings. Right now, she is starting the workers building."
He nodded and headed to a spot to watch Cami.
Chapter 1
Opening up the workers' building, I felt a gush of air leave the building. Walking into the building, I went to the second floor and went to the first of the seven upstairs suites. I put the crate on a chair next to the closet and started to clean it out. As I cleared out the closet and priced the items that could be saved, I got into a groove and took pictures of what I was doing in the building for my website.
After I finished the closet, I looked inside and discovered all I needed to do was sand the floor and stain the floor. I decided that the walls only needed a coating of white paint. By the end of the day, the floor had been stained twice, the walls in the closet were painted twice, and the shelf above the metal hanging bar only needed to be polished. After I dropped the items off to the store, I went back to my RV and made myself some lunch. As I ate, I uploaded the closet pictures and wrote what I did in the space. When I finished, I sent the pictures to Aunt Kathy.
Ten minutes later she called and said, "Oh, Cami, that looks amazing. I am so happy you went with white for the walls. That lighter floor stain looks amazing."
"Thank you," I said. "When I get back, I am going to take down the door and shine the brass on the door."
"Oh I knew having you start here was a good idea," She said. "I am so happy you are getting to your roots, now did you take before pictures to post on your website?"
"Of course I did," I said, laughing. "Do you think I am an amateur?"
"Not at all my love. Listen before I leave I want to have a chat with you and dinner like old times."
"Are you alright?"
"Of course sweetheart," She said. I have just had things on my mind and I want to ask you some things."
"Whenever you are wanting to have it let me know," I said. "You know that my schedule is fluid."
"That is what I was thinking," she said.
I spent the rest of the day finishing the closet floor and working on the bathroom. The bathroom needed a bit more work. The tile around the clawfoot tub on the walls needed to be replaced. The wood that was above the tile was rotting out and it looked like a lot of the drywall would need to be replaced.
I messaged Aunt Kathy and said, "I will need to order a bit of supplies for this first bathroom. How should I handle it?"
She replied, "I have an account at the local hardware store and lumber yard. I already told them you would be coming in. Whatever you spend just keep the receipts in the till daily. Also Gabby will be working this weekend. She will have the cash and credit receipts for each purchase at the end of the day. If I am home I will have the money picked up. Once I leave, they will pick up from you."
"Understood," I said. "I will go to both places and order what is needed. I may order over what we need and store them in the garage of the main house."
I drove into town and purchased everything I would need and a little extra. Both stores arranged to deliver the items the next morning. When I got back, I had three more hours until I normally stopped for dinner. Iwent to the first downstairs kitchen and went into the pantry. I looked around and grabbed the garbage can and a packing crate. I got to work and worked on emptying the pantry until my alarm went off.
