πŸ•2/25πŸ•A national crisis- finding answers(24 books)

Waking up the following morning I checked my phone and saw a message from Mitchel that we had work today and to please log in after noon. Rolling over I heard chainsaws going outside and guessed that Ben was trying to get us more wood in case we got a blizzard. Going downstairs I used my wood stove to make a pot of coffee and started to make breakfast. By the time Ben came in with Miles behind them I had breakfast burritos staying warm on the stove.

Ben came over and kissed me saying, "We were up at first light trying to get ready for a projected blizzard this weekend. I ran the generator for the freezers downstairs and they are still so packed that I do not need to worry about them thawing much at all. I also ran the mini freezer and fridge up here as well to keep them cool with the solar power portable generators."

"Good," I said. "I am starting soup for lunch after I eat and I have to log into work after noon today. I have a solar power generator on the porch now charging up to full even though I have my solar panels working just fine in the office. But as soon as the power comes back on we need to flip the switch for the small power generators set up in the dining room. When I am done with the soup I am gonna go check out the greenhouses and see what can be harvested. I have some canning jars left but I may use up the power from the solar panels to dehydrate things."

While we ate I started a pot of chicken soup with a jar of canned chicken I had in the inside pantry. Getting my boots on I headed to the furthest greenhouse and noticed that some of the items were harvested. Going to the guys I asked, "Did you guys harvest anything from greenhouse 3?"

Miles looked up and said, "No why?"

"I went into the greenhouse and it looks like someone harvested carrots and some leeks," I said. "I will check with Cara but I believe we may have to install locks on the doors."

Going back out I went over to Cara's house and when she answered she asked, "Hey did you go into our greenhouse?"

"I was going to ask you the same thing," I said. "I went to greenhouse three and I am missing stuff."

"Well," She said. "Mike is putting locks on the greenhouse for me now. After I am pulling everything that is ready and planting new seeds. Even my bee hive looks disturbed and honey is missing."

"I will look into it and I will check the camera's after work," I said. "I will be doing the same the next few days."

Taking my cart to greenhouse three I walked over to my beehive and noticed that I was missing some honey as well. I harvested all of my leeks to dehydrate and tilled the dirt. After planting seeds for mini bell peppers I went inside where Ben was getting coffee and said, "I am going to dehydrate all of these. But Cara said that her greenhouse was hit as well. Do we still have the locks and have you checked all the animals?"

"While your working I will put locks on all the doors," Ben said. "I will check the camera's as well. I may have to put up the signs up that they may be shot if caught trespassing."

As he said that we heard our gate open and Max and Mark pulled up to the house. Going outside Ben said, "Hey guys what's up?"

Max looked at us and asked, "Are you all missing stuff from your barns and greenhouses?"

Ben said, "I have not checked the barn but both Maggie and Cara both noticed things missing from the greenhouses."

Mitchel said, "Someone stole some of Mr. Larsons chicken eggs he had in the incubator."

Miles came from the barn and said, "We had no eggs in the henhouse this morning. But all the animals are accounted for. Our incubator is full and I am guessing we will have some baby chicks in a week or so."

Ben looked at me and said, "We will get the barn secure as well. I will also be putting locks on the henhouse as well. "

"Can I offer you guys coffee?" I said. "Also does any of our neighbors need anything?"

"We are good on coffee," He said. "Mrs. Gills is almost out if onions, The ones she has growing are far from ready."

"Well Mrs. Gills in in luck I just harvested a bunch of leeks," I said. "Let me grab some for her."

Going into the house I grabbed some leeks and looked out the back window. There were two people with baskets heading to my fruit orchard. Running out front I said, "There are two people heading toward the orchard near our docks."

All the guys took off running to the orchard. I heard yelling and screaming then a few minutes later the guys came back with a man and woman in cuffs. When they got upfront the lady said, "I don't see why we can't take what we want it is government property."

Laughing I said, "No the land around here is privately owned. You stole from a lot of families."

"So what," The guy spat out. "You have enough."

"Because I work for it." I said. "All these homes worked for it, Your lucky I didn't shoot you when I saw you going to steal from us."

The lady looked at me and said, "So we are supposed to starve?"

"No," I said. "You could ask to work for it. Most people here are not greedy and would have provided you something if your willing to work for it. But stealing will get you shot."

The guy gave a look and said, "I am not working for shit. Can we go back to our camp?"

"No," Max said.

"But our belongings are at our camp and that's where we live," The lady said.

Mitchel said, "We will take you to get your belongings then we are driving you back to town. There is no camping inside the state park system anymore and we are on lock down. There is shelters inside of town."

They both got big eyes and said, "We are not going there. People disappear from them."

Looking at Ben I asked, "What do you mean disappear?"

The guy said, "My friend Johnny and his girl went to stay at a shelter. A few days later we saw his girl walking to the park system. She said they grabbed Johnny and a few other men and took them in the middle of the night."

"Do you know how often this happens?" I asked.

The girl looked at me and said, "It happens all the time. The people in charge say the people taken were sick but if they were why would they let us leave during the day. Shouldn't we be on lockdown?"

Looking at the rangers I said, "You do what you think is best but steel from me and my family again I will shoot you."

Heading inside I said to Ben, "I think we need to add the rest of the Cameras to the property and build a gate from the water. There should have been no way for them to get to our property unless they came around the river."

Nodding he said, "I have the twelve foot privacy fence in the barn and we have plenty. I will get Mike and we will start on the back end of the property. What are you going to do?"

"I am going to log in for work and report what we learned," I said. "Some of the reports I have seen at work are stating the same thing."

Going into my office I set it to secure and sent a message to saying, "We need to talk I have some news."

As everyone logged in more and more of the agents stated they have news. We all waited till Mitchel was logged in and he said, "I guess we may all be finding out the same thing. But first my news. We discovered that Loiex 12 cannot be caught by everyday activities. The only way you can get it is if you are injected by it."

Smith looked up and asked, "What is the outcome of anyone who receives the injection?"

Mitchel said, "Possible death. From what we have gathered it can lead to coma's, paralysis and severe immune issues."

Speaking up I said, "They are experimenting on people from the shelters."

Mitchel asked, "Maggie are you sure?"

I told everyone about the incident with the thieves earlier today and how they stated people were being taken from the shelter during the night for being sick. I said, "What if during the night some are being injected without their knowledge then it hits so fast the people are removed. Human Guinea pigs."

Mitchel said, "That is a serious accusation and one we need to look into. Can our tech people hack into the shelter camera's so we can get access and watch at night?"

Samir piped in and said, "I am on it. Maggie can you get me the name of the shelter near you?"

"Humble Street homeless shelter," I said. "Its located at 3 main street."

Watching him on his screen he said, "Boss man this is weird. This location does not have camera's. I was able to hack into a computer and use the camera. This computer is facing a lodging room but there is no camera's seen. I am sharing the screen now."

Looking at the room, I said, "Guy's before this all started. I volunteered at this shelter in the clothing and outreach room. There used to be cameras in this room, as this was the woman's bunk house."

Mitchel asked, "Maggie, are you one hundred percent sure?"

"Positive," I said. "There was a woman who was staying there who was stealing from others, and that is how she was caught."

Mitchel sighed and said, "This is bad everyone if they are stepping up the shelters than we need to see about other shelters. Hackers get the names of the biggest shelters and start seeing what you can find. Maggie, Cass and Mike I want you to look into blogs and forums see what people are saying. Check your emails and see other private work we assigned you."

Chris asked, "Should we assume this is going to jump into the paranormal field?"

"Keep your ears to the ground with that," Mitchel said. "If they hear anything that could be considered our higher clearance that could be involved with this let me know. But do not leave your homes as we cannot afford any of our team disappearing."

I said, "It can get bad if this goes from the government needing to be taken down to the paranormal field. If they are trying to make a cryptid or a zombie, like what happened in Russia a few years ago, things are going to be catastrophic. This is a global war now."

"Hey guy," Chris said. "Look at the screen."

We watched as a man walked into the shelter room and placed something on a few of the bed pillows. After he was done he left the room and people started to file in and select beds placing their things down. We saw a variety of men being led to those specific beds. We heard instructions being given for meals and a health screening. We watched everyone sit or lay down and then saw people leave the room as they were called.

Watching the screen, I said, "What if they made Loiex 12 a biological agent that can be spread with skin contact? Or what if they are putting a sedative on the pillow to make the people tired enough that they will not want to wake up or appear ill?"

Samir said, "That is a possibility. So boss what if we were to release the nano bug to  check the shelters?"

Mitchel said, "Samir do you really want to try out your prototype?"

He said, "It is small enough that we could find out what is happening."

Mitchel asked, "Who lives right near a shelter?"

Gabby said, "I do. I can see the doors from my office window."

"I cannot believe I am saying this," Mitchel said. "Samir, talk Gabby through the bug deployment."
