🐕2/8🐕The Train Station (20 book series)

Sitting at the tourist desk at our local train station, you would be amazed at what you see. I live in Key West, Florida, and the state recently opened the over-the-water rail line. I started working here a few days a week to escape my overbearing parents. They think I send customers to their fishing business, but I actually suggest their business while I save money to escape them. My manager is a friend, and she helped me set up a secret account where a portion of my paycheck goes. My boss creates fake pay stubs for me. Imake eighteen an hour, however, my parents think I make minimum wage. For my direct deposit, and when I save enough to get an apartment in St Augustine, I will transfer and leave my parents.  

I woke up to hearing thunder. Getting out of bed, I used the bathroom and went to get my work clothes on. I saw my phone light up with a text message from my boss, "Plan on staying later, we are expecting crowds."

Going downstairs, I made myself lunch and made a few extra things to eat if we are super busy as I have to stay longer. My Mom came in and said, "Why are you taking so much food?"

"You mean the food I pay for Ma?" I asked. "Because we are going to be busy, and I was told to prepare for a long day."

My Mother looked at me and said, "Watch your tone Em I will not tolerate disrespect."

She raised her hand to slap me and I said, "You will not lay a hand on me. You do and I will never recommend the family business again. That and I will have you arrested for assault. My boss knows if I do not show up that you and dad had something to do with it and you cannot afford to have me lose my job. I am the one who recommends Dad's boat tours."

I looked at my watch and said, "Oh, look at the time, I have to go to work."

I picked up my bag and grabbed my electric bike, heading to the train depot. When I got to the train station I went into the breakroom for employees and My boss came in asking, "Are you alright? You seem stressed?"

"Hey Katie," I said. "My mom was in a rare mood. When I talked back, she threatened to hit me."

SHe raised an eyebrow and said, "She didn't though right?"

"No," I said. "When I told her that I would never recommend the boat tour again she backed off fast."
