In our small town, under the shade of massive oak trees, is my open-air market. I had a small, tiny home at the back of the property. This home was not only my office but my home. During the day, I rented out spots for people to host yard sales or open-air stores, and at night, I rented to food trucks to set up to sell food. But with any business, there is always a story.
CHAPTER 1
My Grandparents owned this property, and when they passed, I was blessed to inherit the property. As the property was in a prime location, my family was so mad. They wanted to sell the property for immediate money, and I decided that the property could be a successful long-term investment. My tiny home at the back of the property was comfortable, and in the first six months, I made a portion of what I could have gotten if I sold the property. I thought things would be calm from my parents and siblings; I had gone no contact with them, and boy was I wrong.
January 1st 2026
My alarm went off at seven in the morning, and I got ready for my day. Putting on my coat, I walked outside and looked at the vendors that had set up for the first day of the new year. I walked around to see all the vendors and wished them a happy New Year. As I walked around, I made sure everyone was alright, and as I walked back to my home and I heard, "Amanda, we need to speak."
I turned to see my parents walking towards me, and I groaned. Looking at them I said, "Mother there is a reason I am not talking to you."
"You need to consider selling this property and share the money with us," She said.
"Sorry mother that will not be happening," I said. "This was my inheritance from my grandparents. The retail price for the property is 750k. So far in the five months I have been open I have profited 240k after taxes. So no I will not be selling or sharing with you. Now you need to leave."
