Let's meet the main cast of "Speaking with the Dead."
Angie, The Main
Red, The Other Half
Sophie, The Tech Nerd
Frank, The Sceptic
Maggie, The Positive One
Nat, the narrator
Nat sneaks in and looks around, "Hey, all! Listen before the rest of the cast arrives. I need you to know that they do not know I exist. Funny huh? So listen, when they show up, don't mention me, and I can keep you all up to date on all the gossip behind the scenes. But I have to scoot as they are coming down the hall now."
Maggie said, "So, Angie, you were telling us about the guy with the hole in his chest?"
"Yes," Angie said. "So I had gone with my ex-husband, His assistant manager, and his assistant manager's wife for dinner and a movie. I did not drink because I did not trust my ex."
Red said, "You don't drink very much anyway."
"True," Angie said. "But this happened on the way home. My ex was mad at me because he wanted to get back to his mistress. I told him I would have driven my own truck and met him. However, he had to keep up appearances. So when you are on Highway 41, which goes from Pasco to Hernando County. You can either stay on 41 and head towards Brooksville or turn towards the expressway and take Shady Hills Road. I hated the Shady Hills Road route, but my ex insisted it was the faster route. On the corner, there used to be an old store and an empty lot right past it."
Frank said, "I remember that shop, it is across the street from the Speedway or 7-11. It was a deli at one point and was torn down for the road work being done in that area."
"Anyway," Angie said. "It had to be around midnight. I was so tired, and as soon as we left the movie theater, my ex went off on me. So as we drove home, I kept watching out the window. Now his assistant manager was in the car behind us, and when we took the corner, I saw a man in the field kneeling down. As we went past him, he stood up, and I said he had a hole in his chest. My ex looked at me like I had two heads, and he said I was tired and imagining things. Then his phone rang. His assistant manager saw the same thing as I did."
Sophie laughed and said, "Did you ever do any research?"
Laughing along with her, Angie said, "Of course. I saw there were a few accidents in the area; however, there was no mention of people with chest trauma."
Red said, "That whole area is known for accidents."
Maggie asked, "Did you ever see him again?"
Angie sighed and said, "Here is the creepy thing. I swore he was on my road for weeks after I saw him. I kept the curtains closed tight and made sure the kids were in the house after dark."
Milt looked up and said, "Could he have felt like you were a kindred spirit and thought maybe you could have helped him?"
We all looked at him, and Red said, "Since she doesn't ride a motorcycle or is in a bike club, I don't think that would be something."
