I was born into a life of privilege. When I turned 15, I discovered what that privilege entailed. Waking up that morning, I went down to the dining room and found my family around the table with gifts and birthday balloons everywhere. My Grandma Rose, the matriarch of the family, stood up and said, "My little Mia. You're almost all grown up. My time is going to come to an end soon enough, and you will take my place."
Walking over to Grandma, I kissed her cheek and said, "Don't say that you have many years ahead of you."
"One can only hope," She said, touching my cheek. Handing me a gift, she said, "Today, though, we celebrate you, and tonight we will have the party of all parties for that celebration."
Everyone raised their glasses and I sat in my seat next to Grandma. Opening the gift that she gave me I found a jewerly box. Inside there was a journal with a note that said say its a new journal for me to write my thoughts on and take out the necklace, I took out the necklace and said, "Grandma, I love the necklace and journal to write my thoughts."
Keeping the jewerly box in my lap I ate my favorite foods for breakfast. When I finished I said, "I need to get ready for school."
My parents nodded and I went up to my room. I took out the old journal and note placing it in the pocket of my coat in the closet. Leaving the new journal in the box along with the gold pen that she had included. Getting ready I went to downstairs and our driver Mitch said, "Are you ready Miss Mia?"
Taking my lunch from the cook I turned to Mitch and said, "Sure am."
