πŸ“–πŸ“–πŸ“–Ghost 101 (multiple book series)

396 remaining

Looking over my classroom, I said, "Good afternoon, everyone, and welcome to Paranormal 101. There are currently 396 students in this class for the year. By the end of the year, there will be fewer than twenty left in the classroom. Consider yourself my 396 ghosts. Now you may be thinking this was an easy A class. It is not. You are required to do actual work, and the field trips will test you to your very core. The reward you will receive at the end will be amazing. Last year we had eleven students standing at the end of the semester. Each of these students have a job now in a paranormal location. So please watch this video and my former students will introduce themselves."

I put the video on where the eleven students who passed the class at the end of last year introduced themselves and did a short blurb about where they are now. Each one of the students stated good luck and to stick to it. When the video was over I went back to the front of the room and asked, "Who is ready for more information?"

I saw many hands raise in the room and I smiled, "Well this year as seniors you are fighting for a coveted thirty spots. Eleven of those spots are at the locations that my former students are at. You would be hired on based on your performance here."

A student in the back stood up and walked to the front microphone and asked, "What if the entire class passes?"

Smiling I said, "In the ten years I have taught this class, out of between 250 to five hundred students last year I have never had more than twenty students make it to the end of the class."

Flipping her hair she said, "That does not seem very fair does it?"

"It is all based on hard work and you will discover what you are made of during this class," I said. "However, if more than thirty students make it through you will be guaranteed a position in various places around the world. I have a list of companies all willing to hire students. The students with the top grades get to chose where they want to go in order of your grades. Like I said for this opportunity you have to put in the work in order to be qualified."

A younger man got in line behind her and she gave him a look and went back to her seat. He asked, "What can we expect Miss Callie?"

"Great question," I said. "Take a seat and we will go over what is going to happen."

Sitting on my desk I started the expectations, "During the year you will visit over 50 paranormal locations in a five state radious. These places normal folk cannot get into. In some locations you will be in isolation to investigate. You will meet various paranormal investigators, psychics and mediums. You will do research and papers. If you can handle the work and investigation load in this class you will be onto amazing adventures."

Lifting up a stack of papers I said, "This is a release form for the class and if you want to leave we will fill them out and you will not be charged for the class."

Lifting up a backpack I said, "If you chose to fight for a coveted position you will receive a bag and will be charged for the class. These bags are filled with Paranormal Equipment and your binder that has an outline of what we will be doing. Remember the trips are covered in the cost of this class. So I am going to go to my office and let you think about it while video footage from last years investigations plays for you to get an idea of what is happening. I will be getting the waivers for you to sign if you choose to proceed."

I pressed play for the video and walked outside the class. Max my teachers assistant joined me at the viewing window and he said, "I have a feeling we are going to loose quite a few students today."

"Same," I said. "I see a few students though that seem to have potential. How is your thesis going?"

"Good," He said. "I cannot wait for this years investigations so I can add to it."

"Work in progress?" I asked.

"Just like your books," He said. "I heard you have not renewed your contract for next year."

Chuckling I said, "That is why I missed my meeting this morning. I signed another five year contract this morning so don't worry your stuck with me and you will finish your thesis while I am here."

"Good to know Doc," He said. "Well it looks like we may have scared the masses in there with the video. "You ready to filter the dead weight?"

Taking the handle of the first cart I said, "Lets do this."

We pulled the carts into the classroom and I paused the video. "Well well well. Everyone this is my teachers assistant Max. So I see some of you are on the fence. So we are going to do this in groups. First if you chose to stay your first assignment is in the binder. I want a three-page paper on a paranormal event that speaks to you. There is a badge in your bag that will allow you into the archives of the library. Max will be registering your badge if you chose to stay while we fill out the paperwork. From here you will head to the library and meet Mrs. Grayson the head librarian. She will be your point person for the archive. Please join us back in the classroom at four pm."

Max and I sat at the desk and I said, "If you made a decision please come forward."

The guy who came forward at the beginning walked up to the desk and said, "I want in."

"What is your name?" I asked.

"Calix," He said. "I already know where I am going to choose at the end of the year."

Taking out the form for him to sign Max handed him backpack and his badge. He turned to the class and said, "Come on guys if we make it through we get a job after college."

He left and I said, "Well Calix broke the wall who is going to join him or leave."

A lined formed and the next few students decided to stay. Then the first student decided to leave. She said, "Although I would love to do this my religion would not allow me. I wish everyone in the class good luck but I cannot stay."

"Thank you for your honesty," I said. "Please go see Mr. Kolman he has a historical class similar and he has something similar. Take this referral card Shiloh."

In the next ten minutes Shiloh, Aurelia, Ellis, Joseph, Mason, Eleanor and Elizabeth had left the program. Max went to their pictures and removed them off the board to show everyone who was left. He turned around and said, "Has anyone else decided?"

I pressed play on the video and as the video played more came up deciding to stay. Then we had another handful of students decided not to stay. I handed Max a pile of names to remove the pictures from the wall. We got down to 355 students on the list and Max and I stood up and I said, "It seems like a few of you need to watch more to decide. We will be back in five minutes."

When we came back there were more students in line and we registered more and removed a few. Max continued to remove pictures and by the time it was lunch we were down to 332 on the list. Max went to pick up our pizza and when he came back I was working through another line. I said to the students, "Sorry everyone we will be eating while we do this. However you cannot leave until you decide."

Then came the girl who said she thought it was not fair. She gave a smirk and said, "I am going to stay to prove that this is a rigged class."

"Well Hazel," I said. "I cannot see the defining moment when you change your mind."

The next few hours we continued on with the registration and removal of students. By the time the last student left the room we had filtered down to 316 students. By the time everyone came back to the classroom we had removed all the pictures of students who had decided to leave. I started the actual class.

"Well everyone welcome to Ghost 101 and I am your teacher Miss Callie Worthington," I said.

One of the students called out, "The Callie Worthington the horror writer."

"The very same," I said. "All three hundred and sixteen of you are who are going to be in this class. So the paper I assigned is due Monday August eleventh. Our first trip will be the night of August 23rd. Who would like to know where we are going?"

Hand shot up and I said, "That is what I like. We are going to the state forest and you will be sleeping on the outskirts of the settlers encampment. You can either sleep under the covered pavilion or you can bring a small two person tent. We will go over the encampment at our first class on Monday. Congratulations to everyone who decided to stay. Also if you decide to quit the program you will be given a limited refund for the class as you all have been charged as of now. See your outdoor list for what you can bring with you. The encampment will be providing a meal."

Max stood up and said, "This is a private entrance to the encampment so no one can join us. Good luck everyone and we will see you on Monday."

We watched the students leave the class and I said good night to Max and headed to my cottage at the edge of town. When I pulled up I saw shadows moving inside. Walking in I called out, "Hello roommates today has been a very long day. Can we keep everything calm today?"

Hearing the attic door shut I assumed that the unseen residents were giving me space. I cooked a omelet and toast for dinner. I took my food to the living room and sat down in front of the tv. Looking at the picture on the wall my food sat untouched as I said to the picture, "You promised you would fight for us. You should still be here."

Loading my laptop I started to work while I ate. At some point I fell asleep on the couch. When I woke up the first days of sunshine were coming through the curtains in the living room.

Since I had office hours later in the day I got up off the couch, making toast and tea. Setting up my laptop I started working on the years refund schedule as the students will have had time to look over their binder and choose to drop the class. When the schedule was finished I sent a email to Max to have the finalized copy and got ready to meet him for office hours. As I walked out of the cottage I called out, "Have a great day."

Driving to the college I found Max waiting in front of my parking space. Looking at the expression on his face I asked, "A long line?"

He chuckled and said, "When I looked there was twelve and that was a half hour ago. Thank you for sending the refund schedule I believe we may have a few dropping out today after looking at the binders."

As we walked towards the building, I said, "They will be disappointed to know that the library pass and the backpack take four hundred off the refund."

We walked to the back entrance into my office and I loaded the laptop with the digital sign in sheet. Sighing I said to Max, "There are close to forty-five students waiting."

Max called in the first student, Calix. He laughed when he saw my surprised expression, and he said, "Oh no, I am not dropping the class. I am here because I wanted to warn you about Hazel. She was in the library last night with a lot of us complaining about the binder. She said some of the dates mess with her social media obligations and was trying to put a bit into everyone's ears that the field trips should be optional. I told her that it states on the course catalog that these trips are mandatory but she is full of herself. She even put a post on her Instagram feed that this class is trying to have her lose work."

I laughed and said, "Thank you, Calix. I see she is on the list today. Do you happen to have the post handy so we can watch it? Also Max will you see if you can get Dean Sturgis on the line? I believe he will be made aware of this post as well."

Calix pulled up the post and Max and I watched the video where Hazel sited many lies about the class. I sent a copy of the video to Dean Sturgis and he replied, "If she does not take the video down and stop she is out of the class no refund and regardless will go on academic probation effective immediately. This class has a waiting list to get into every year and we do have the trips as mandatory on the class lists."

Calix whistled and said, "I also need to be upfront with you both. I come from a haunted home in northern Maine. Like the home we shared with my Grandparents is insane. Take this jump drive and when you get a chance look it over. This is video footage from inside the house while we were there and a lot of the times sleeping. We have to have cameras up because Grams has Alzheimer's, and we need to make sure she is alright. You will see her talking to things and people who are not there."

"Thank you Calix," I said taking the jumpdrive and placing it in my pocket. "I will watch it over."

Calix left and after two withdrawals, where Max went to the class and removed their pictures we had a large amount of students come in to warn us about Hazel. We assured them that we were handling the situation and when they left Hazel was up to see us.

When she walked in I cut her off before she could start by saying, "Oh Hazel I am so happy you came in I was going to call you as you broke the class and college policies and I need to give you a chance to fix the situation."

She squared her shoulders and said, "My Dad is a lawyer--"

"Who has received a call from the dean and came up with this solution with him," I said. "So lets not play games alright. First off I know you have a social media following. Nothing like mine but you have a decent one."

Rolling her eyes she said, "You do not have followers."

Max coughed and said, "She has 100k on Tumblr, 2 million on Tiktok, 2 million on Instagram and 500k on Tiktok. I belive when we checked X you were around 100k. You can check her out right now under Callie the Ghost Writer."

While she was looking me up I said, "So this is what can be done before the post is reported by the college. You can remove it and post one where you come clean, telling the truth that you knew that the trips were mandatory. I encourage posting about the locations and field trips on social media. Hell I post every trip we take during the class on my social media. I want you all to especially of you get real evidence.  You can do that but it did state in the class roster that they are mandatory. Your father is giving you the green light to drop the class if you wish, however, regardless if you do or do not you are on a 60 day academic probation starting now due to the slander you have done. If you choose to stay remember you have to come to all trips and if you miss any you are automatically dropped no refund."

Callie asked, "I could do posts while on the trips?"

"Look at my Instagram," I said. "Posts do not have to be food and clothing. My most viewed post is the haunted train trip we take this October. Hazel you have a years worth of trips you get for free. Some at beach locations, hotels people your age wish they could get into. Hell we are going to Spookfest at the NJ Mental asylum. The whose who of the paranormal world will be there. I want to offer you a challenge. Go home get a pizza and watch my social media. You are stubborn Hazel and think about this what if you get a job from this class in Alaska, California, New York, England, Ireland? Think about your views then."

She got quiet and said, "May I do my apology post here in your office. I am removing the Instagram post now and I will also post it on my Youtube and Tiktok as well."

I nodded. Hazel did a heartfelt apology post and ended it with saying, "I was given the option to leave the class but I decided to jump in. So guess what everyone I will take you all with me when we do our trips. You never know what we may discover along the way. Now I have to go finish my paper due Monday for the class."

She posted the raw video and also posted it to her tiktok and Youtube with the title I was wrong. Before she left I said, "You will do great in this class Hazel."

She laughed and said, "Calix and I will be fighting for Alaska in the end you know. I knew Bennie who got it last year and she is never going to leave. But seriously I have to get working on my ghosts of the Titanic paper. I am doing mine with a bit of a twist."

When she left Max and I spoke with students and removed five more from the class. When office hours were over Max and I set up the classroom for Mondays first class and I headed home to work on my next book.

309 Remaining

When I walked into the first class, I saw all 309 seats we had marked were full and ready to go. Max sat at his desk and I walked to the front of the class. A student in the back called out, "When if the next book coming out?"

That broke the ice and I started my introduction, "Good Afternoon Everyone, Welcome to Ghost 101 and I am your teacher Miss Callie Worthington. To answer your question the next book in the Alphabet series has been delayed due to some personal reasons. We will not get into why but it will be here soon."

"So what will we be doing in ghost 101?" I asked. "We will be learning about the paranormal through time. Sharing experiences if you ever had some. Searching for the truth. Now, at the end of today's class please drop off your papers to Max's desk. Max is my teachers assistant and is working on his doctorate in Paranormal Psychology. He is my right hand man here."

Max took his queue and said, "I am here for you as much as Callie is. We share office hours and an office so we work together as a team. I cannot wait to see each of you excel."

Taking over, I said, "So what started me on this path. Well, my parents divorced when I was two. My Dad hid the fact he was gay and when he told my mom the truth they decided that they had been friends so long before they were wed they would make their futures work. Dad converted the three car garage into a beautiful cottage and I had the best of both worlds growing up. They remained close friends and when my Dad Married his partner Greg he came into the family. This happened when I was five. When I turned six Mom got sick. Greg stopped working to care for her and me since Dad is a Professer of Law. I think Greg cried the most when mom passed away of cancer. They moved into the main house and one day Greg called me to lunch and I said we need to get mom. We both looked out the windows and saw my Mom sitting on the lounge Greg would carry her out to when the weather was nice. Greg dropped to his knees and held me. She blew us a kiss and faded into the light. Now before your say come on Callie. Look at the screen. Greg took this picture as we watched my mom on her chair."

The picture with my moms spirit on the chair came onto the screen. There were gasps, "When my Dad came home we showed him the picture. That weekend, Greg Dad and I bought roses and planted them all around the chair. Whenever we got sad or missed mom we would go sit in her rose-surrounded chairs and talk to her. We still do. From there lets say I learned to listen to the places I was visiting."

Max stood up and said, "When I was eighteen my Grandfather got sick. We had always been close. He was the first one in the hospital room to see my mom and me. He drove from Key west, Florida the moment he heard my Mom was having me. As he sat in the room holding me he asked my parents if he could park his airstream on the back part of the property. Of course they agreed. When my mom was ready to go back to work he watched me. He was there for everything for me. I was his only Grandchild as my mom could not have anymore after me. When he got sick he told me when I pass I will give you the RV and you can live in it. I will give you a sign that I am alright."

"He passed away a week after I graduated from high school," Max said. "The night of his funeral I went to sleep in the airstream. I was laying in bed and I heard his footsteps coming through the Airstream. The kitchen light went on and the coffee maker started to brew the coffee that was set up the day he passed. I remember sitting up watching the coffee brew and said Grandpa thanks for making the coffee I will drink it when I wake up. The lights went out and I heard the Airstream door shut. I still own the airstream and live in it. Every so often the pot will start to brew in the middle of the night. I believe its my Grandpa checking in letting me know he is okay."

I smiled and said, "Who else would like to share a story? Lets line up at the microphone and share."

A line formed as we listened to everyone share their experiences. The students realized that they were not alone. Some students rolled their eyes and Max took note of them. I was surprised when a student who shared cried as she told a beautiful story about her Grandma, Hazel got up and handed he a tissue, giving her a hug. Chuckling to myself I thought, I hope her and caylix can get a long because the Alaska location wants two students this year coming up.

At the end of the class I said, "Tonights homework. I want you to find a video online for next class. It needs to be 2-4 minutes long and it has to show paranormal activity. You will send it to Ghost101@tth.com and the title needs to say assignment-your name. If someone submits the video before you we will ask you to submit a new one. Please have these submitted before Wed for Thursdays class."

When the class was dismissed, a few of the students who were laughing came up and I said, "Hello everyone you're not quitting yet, are you?"

"Do we have to get up and share?" The bolder of the two asked.

"No," I said. "But it will help you understand your fellow classmates more. Remember, this class is Mandatory attendance. You will be on trips with your fellow classmates all year."

"So we cannot miss any classes?" The bolder asked.

Hazel walked up and said, "Lord you saw my apology video it stated 100% attendance mandatory. We are there or no refund."

She handed me her paper and said, "I hope this is good I wanted to add more but it would have been a book."

"I am sure its fine Hazel," I said.

The guy looked at her and said, "So you're willing to give up being a influencer for this class."

She laughed and said, "Who is giving anything up? Have you saw Callies social media? I am gonna get content and fight Calix for Alsaska."

Calix laughed and said, "Hazel you can come visit Alaska when I am there. I will buy you lunch."

She said, "More like I will buy you lunch."

The student said, "You all lost it. We just want to see some of the locations."
