πŸ•2/9πŸ•the candy maker (6 book series)

Owning a candy and cookie shop, I see it all! Love, heartbreak, and gossip all happen in my little store. I live in a small historic town that has weekly events. Looking out the windows of my little store, I heard the band that had set up in the courtyard in front of the courthouse. My door chimed as the yearlies came in for their weekly treat.

Mr. Yearlie said, "Good afternoon, Mags, what are you working on today?"

Bringing out the tray of samples, I said, "These are chocolate walnut clusters with cranberries."

They each tried one and Mrs. Yearlie said, "I think we would like a dozen in a to-go box. Mr. Yearli said, "we also would like two orange dream ice cream drinks."

As i prepared thier drinks we talked. I hoped one day I would find someone to have a relationship like they have. When I was finished making their drinks I rang up their items and cashed them out.

After they left, I rang out a few customers for the items in the case and packaged items. When the afternoon slump started i went to the kitchen and started gathering the supplies for the next day's treats. The rest of the afternoon was spent helping customers. When i closed the shop, i finished cleaning up the shop and filled the vending machine for my store. The vending machine for my store was part of the original owners design. He imported the machine from Europe, and the outer part allowed people to shop when the store was closed. This increased my sales, and whatever I could not fit into the machine would be added when I finished making the next day's candy or in the morning. This setup added to my sales.

I then put in my earbuds and loaded a podcast to listen to, and for the next few hours, I filled my new empty case, added gift items to the shelves, and prepared for the following day. After that I placed a nw order for supplies to be delivered. When I was done, it was around six in the evening and I grabbed my bag to walk across to the bank and deposit money. The bank guard saw me leave my shop and he walked over to me. He watched as I deposited the funds and bid me good night. I walked along the street to the corner market.

When I walked into the market I heard, "Evening Mags are you here for business or pleasure?"

Laughing, I said, "Hey Lils I need to get some items for me. I finally set up the online ordering for here, Bj's, walmart and the restaurant supply store."

Lils acted shocked and said, "Well, you finally joined us all. Did you see there is a fair going on the next few nights down by the churches?"

"I did read about that," I said. "Since the shop is closed on Sunday, I may go there on Saturday night."

"Well, go shop. I will see you when you come up to pay," She said as she turned to her paperwork.

I walked through the store, adding items to my cart. When I had a few days of groceries, I went to check out and Lils said, "What no emergency supplies?"

Laughing I said, "I am doing an order Sunday afternoon for my monthly stock up."

"Have you heard from Charlie?" She asked.

"He is still on a secured mission," I said. "I received an email last week and I hope to hear from him soon. I miss him."

She placed her hand on my arm and said, "When my bill was in the armed services I worried to. If it ever gets to be to much you let me know and I will be there for you in a heartbeat."

A voice behind me said, "We both will be."

Turning, I saw Bill come from the family stairs and I said, "I appreciate it. He is smart and keeps himself safe. I miss talking to him all the time."

Paying my tab, I headed home and put away the groceries. I looked up at Charlie's and my wedding picture. Charlie had just got out of basic training and he was so proud of me for opening the Candy shop. Since the base was thirty minutes from the shop, we were blessed that he could live at home. His commander discovered how smart Charlie was, and Charlie was soon moved into a special ops group at the base. He would be at this base for the long haul and would only go on missions. Someone asked if Charlie would retire and as much as I hate when he is gone I know he loves his career.

Going into the kitchen I put the food away and grabbed a pan out to place chicken breasts on. I decided I would make chicken flat breads and threw together the ingredients for flat bread.  I heard my phone ding and there was a message that there would be a military call in 30 minutes. I got excited and set up my laptop. As I waited for the call, I checked on the chicken and got out my flat pan for the flat breads. I was rollig out the dough when the video call came through.

Answering I said, "Hello."

Charlies face filled the screen and he said, "Mags seeing your face is a sight for sore eyes."

I flashed a big smile and said, "Charlie, I have missed you."
