The Bloody Mansion (3 book series)

When I was growing up in Highlands there was a Mansion known as the bloody mansion. To get to this home you had to go past Twin Light Towers and follow the small trail from the back of the parking lot lined by the woods. After thirty minutes of navigating the trail you will find the gate house to the mansion. The property is surrounded by a twelve foot stone fence around the entire property. There were gate houses all around the property but the most common one to find was the one from the south as the one to the west went over a cliff the one to the east went into a mountain and the one to the north went to the woods and lake beyond.

The gate houses each had their own history and lore. The gate house to the south would be where invited guests were received. The gate to the west opened to the cliff where you could climb down a steep path that led to the river. This way to the mansion was treacherous an many have went to god on tis path. If you made it from the dock and up the path to the mansion you were very lucky. The gate house to the east and went right into the hill. There was a cave or you had to climb over and many claimed it was like a mountain. Then the final gate house was to the north. It led to the lake and behind the lake the forest which was reported to be haunted.

So how did I come to be at the forest? I received a letter from someone who was connected to the property that said, "I am finally ready to tell the story of the bloody mansion."

I called the phone number on the letter and spoke with Ben the current descendent who owns the property. We made arrangements to meet at the south gate of the property and I arrive early with my recorders, camera, pen and paper in my bag, eager to learn about the mansion. Parking my car outside the gate I got out and used the intercom to buzz the house.

A voice responded with, "I will be with you in a few minutes."

Taking out my camera I started to take pictures from the gate. A few minutes later a young man looking quite ragged came through the gate and said, "Mollie I am so sorry that I took it so long to come and meet you. The house seems to know you are here and they are a bit surprised I let you come here."

"You mean the ghosts?" I asked.

He looked surprised and said, "You know the stories?"

"My Grandpa was Frank," I said. "The gatekeeper back in the eighties."

"Well," He said. "Would you be shocked if his ghost showed up here?"

Chuckling I said, "He still visits at the family home so no it would not shock me. Ben are you alright? You seem like something happened before you came out here."

He sighed and rubbed his temple. Looking at me he said, "Lets walk the walls you may get some pictures for your blog and newspaper article."

We headed to the cliffs as he said, "The last death on the property was the man that replaced Frank after your Grandpa left. Mark had radioed in telling me to stay in the house there was someone trying to come up the west entrance. When I did not hear from him for a while, I called the police and explained the situation. They found Mark's body an hour later. The police think that Mark fell off the cliff."

"What happened today?" I asked.

"I let the spirits in the home know you were coming last night," He said. "The noise they have been creating has been short of chaos, and I had to get them to agree to not hurt you."

"I appreciate that," I said. "However, do not be afraid I am used to ghosts being buttholes. The ones in my old home think they run the place when they do not."

We went towards the mansion and I asked, "You live here, but the house looks like it needs a facelift."

Sighing, he said, "That is because it does. However, due to the residents in the home, we cannot hire anyone to come in and repair the building."

When he got to the door he said, "Welcome to the famous murder mansion."

We walked into the entryway of the mansion and he directed me to the door on the left. Going into the first sitting room he pointed to the chairs next to the fire and he gave me a smile. "I appreciate you coming here to interview me. There was a reason that I offered to let you come here to interview me and it is not a good reason."

"Oh," I said. "Should I be worried about becoming the next murder victim?"

"God no," He said. "I am dying. Frank always told me his granddaughter had an eye and ear for the paranormal, but you were so young when he worked here, he did not want to bring you here."

"Ben what can I do to help you," I asked.

A woman appeared behind him and screamed, "Nothing you harlot, you leave my boy alone and let him die at home in peace."

Before Ben could say anything, I said, "If you are his mother, you are a shit one. I do not have children, but if I did and one of them was sick, I would fight hell itself to save them. You maam are a cranky bitch and do not make me say it again when I say if you raise your voice to me again you will lose yours."

She looked shocked, and Ben asked, "You see my mom?"

Nodding, I said, "I see her as she was yelling at me, and I see more in the shadows."

Nodding, he said, "Well, I would like to offer you something that no one can."

"What is it?" I asked.

"Stay with me till the end," He said. "Be my companion and help me as I cannot have a nurse come here. If you stay here, you will inherit the home and can do whatever you want with it after I die. The Doctors say I have about two years left."

"Is there any chance that you can make it through treatment?" I asked.

"I have been to two doctors, and if you are willing to come with me to my next appointment, we will see what can be done," He said. "You do not have to decide until after coming with me to the next doctor's appointment. You would get paid to stay with me and a place to stay. When I pass, you will get the home and property to do whatever you want with it."

I sat thinking for a while and asked, "Why me?"

"Because Frank and I have read your articles in the paper," He said. "If anyone can do this place justice it's you."

"Okay," I said. "So as your companion what would you expect me to do?"

"Be a friend who is not dead," He said. "Maybe a companion with benefits later on if we form that relationship. The second would not be a deal breaker. During my remaining time we can go through the house and you can learn the stories. Also, four hours a day you will be able to remodel the house, starting with the greenhouse."

I sat thinking about the offer for a few minutes and said, "I will do it. I will have to pack a bag and come back."

He nodded and said, "You did not think about this for long."

Sighing, I said, "Recently, my boyfriend left me, and I have been sleeping in the guest room of a friend's home. I really do not have much going on at the moment, and I would love to help you. Besides Ben, we can always hope the Doctors are wrong and you will be around for a long time."

"There is more," He said.

"Your quick," I said. "When you first came through the gate I felt a pull to you. Almost as if we are meant to be together either as companions or more. Probably more."

He gave a small smirk and said, "Well, I will look forward to the more."

Chuckling I said, "Will they get mad if you want to come to town?"

His mother went infront of me and said, "No."

Standing up I squared my shoulders and asked, "Do you want him to die?"

"He is sick and its inevitable," She said.

"You think so huh," I said stepping up to her. "Like I said you are a shit Mom."

"You think you can save him?" she said.

"Possibly," I said. "But you need to back down or I will get you out of here. Answer me this how many spirits?"

"Why," She asked.

"I need to know what I am working with," I said. "I am not an ordinary woman, so answer my question how many of them are there."

"563," She answered. "Including myself."

"So be it," I said. "Ben would you like to get a jacket? We are going to grab groceries after this."

"Groceries?" He asked.

"We are implementing a plan to save you," I said. "Fuck what the doctors say. That starts with a diet that can help you."

He gave a small smile and said, "Well, well, Mollie, let's see what you can do to help me."

His Mom turned to him and said, "Ben sweetie do you think this is a good idea?"

"Yes mother I do," He said. "Please do not interfere with Mollie and I. You did enough in my previous ones already."

We loaded ourselves in the golf cart and headed to my car. We loaded in and went to my friends house. On the drive Ben asked, "Why do you not live with your Grandmother?"

Chuckling I said, "Because my parents live with her and I cannot be there with them. They are not good parents."

Gathering my things from my friend's house, I drove to a local grocery store. We loaded our cart with healthy nutritious food along with cleaning supplies and when we went to the checkout out Ben took out his card and said, "Sorry I am the type of guy who pays for it all."

I went to argue and he put a finger to my lips. I said, "Fine for now."

We loaded my car up and headed back to the mansion. We loaded everything in the cart, and when we pulled up to the mansion, his mother came out looking at everything we had. I said to Ben,"I know you wanted to start with the greenhouse, however i think we should start with the attic."

"I am not opposed to that," He said. "May I ask why the attic?"

"Because its the highest room in the house," I said as we carried in the groceries. "It will set a precident for a calm and healthy home."

He said, "I am down with that. What do we do with the items we decide to not keep?"

"Burn or sell," I said. "From what I see, there is a lot of dirt and grime. Most things may not be able to be saved. We will have to see. But I do see some cozy bonfires in or future."

He nodded and said, "Well let me show you to your room. Consider everything in this home yours. We will have the worlds best scavenger hunt. Do you know anyone who will buy possible haunted items?"

"I do," I said. "Let me send them a text and see what they want to do."

He pointed to a door and said, "That is my room. However this is yor room."

He opened the door next to his room. We walked in and he opened the curtains. I said, "This is lovely."

Pointing to a door, he said, "That is the door between our rooms. Do not worry, my mother tries to avoid this wing."

"May I ask why?" I asked.

"It was my Grandparents' wing," He said. "They did not get along well."

Bens stomach growled and I looked at my watch. Chuckling I said, "Well it looks like we are having a late lunch. Is there anything you do not like?"

He said, "I like about everything."

"Panini's it is," I said.

Heading down to the kitchen I took a cast-iron out and placed it on the stove. Ben pointed out the cutting boards and plates. I grabbed the items to make turkey BLT paninis."

He watched as I prepared lunch and he said, "That looks so good."

"What do you normally eat?" I asked.

"Canned goods or frozen dinners," He said.

"Cans are alright if you eat it in moderation," I said. "Same with the frozen food. I did see the items in both the freezer and pantry. Don't worry, we will track what you are eating now and see if this helps you."

Boiling water I made us some green tea to have with our sandwiches. When lunch was ready we sat at the counter and I pointed to Ben to try the Panini."

He took a bite and he said, "It tastes so fresh."

Giving a bog smile I said, "That is what we want."

After we ate I said, "How much water are you drinking each day?"

"Not much," He said.

"We need to change that," I said.  "See I can down coffee all day but if I have ice water I am more willing to drink that. Especially if it has lemons or fruit in it. So let me get the water bottles I bought and try that out."

Slicing some lemons I made two containers of lemon water. Handing him his cup, I took mine and said, "Let is go check out the attic."

We climbed the stairs to the attic and when Ben opened the door we heard a voice that said, "Get out."

Sighing I said, "Nope, we are cleaning her out."

Ben put the light on and I saw shadows move in the back of the attic. He said, "There are at least five spirits in this room that I know of."

Sitting down on a chair near the door I asked Ben, "How many rooms are in this house?"

Handing me a list, He said, "One hundred and seven."

Reading the list I said, "Well we will be having a bunch of bonfires. I see a lot of items are so damaged we will not be able to save them. So we will be burning a bit. I see some items I can have my friend pick up. But where would we burn them."

He stood up and put out his hand, "Follow me."

He kept my hand in his and we went down to the sunroom. Opening the door he took me to the patio outside. There was a massive fire pit. He said, "This should work right?"

Nodding I said, "This is perfect. Shall we get to work?"

He said, "Lets start."

We went back to the attic and when we went in an elderly lady appeared to us and said, "You are going to destroy us."

Sitting down I pointed to a chair and asked, "Why have you not moved on? Do you not want me to save Ben?"

She looked at Ben and stroked his cheek. She said, "Yes I want him saved. If you can do that I will be very happy."

"What is your name," I asked.

Ben said, "This is my great aunt Ester. She was my Dad's Aunt."

A man appeared next to her and said, "If you think you can prolong Bens life we will gladly move on. My name is Sammy. I am Esther's husband."

"Have you tried to move on?" I asked.

"Yes," Sammy said. "Something is keeping us here. So if you find it please burn it so we can be set free."

"Will you know when we find it?" Ben asked.

"Yes," He said.

Tiktok- The cabin- The next Chapter (multibook series+ prequel-the history of the cabin)

 ************************************************************************

The Cabin The Next Chapter!
************************************************************************

Waking up the following morning I saw that it was after nine. Normally I do not sleep that late but with all the excitement and celebrating I was a bit over tired. Walking downstairs I found the ghosts in the kitchen with Karen reading to them. When I walked in everyone said, "Good Morning!"

Looking at them I said, "You all are in here today? What is going on?"

Karen said, "Nothing usually when Scott listens to the news he leaves the TV on but we thought it would be best to let you sleep. He already had breakfast and met Shane to work on the new pool. If we had the pool when I was alive I would not have been so cranky but my husband was not very nice and it had to be his way."

Ellie patted her hand and said, "No he was not the nicest man but I am sure we can visit the pool when its built and soak our toes."

"Can you do that," I ask. "I mean soak your toes?"

Ellie said, "Yes we can. "We don't get wet like you do but we can feel the temperature and the pressure of the water. It is quite calming. We avoid the river because it can give us a feeling of chaos."

"Well I am sure you will enjoy the pool," I said. "When we were shopping we found bushes and plants that will be going around it and it is going to be a relaxing place."

Looking through the inside freezer I took some chicken out to make chicken salad for lunches. Getting a pot out I started boiling some eggs for salads. Malakai looked up and asked, "What are you making Cami?"

"Scott has a busy work week coming up so I am going to make some salads for his lunches," I said. "I figured I could make some chicken, egg and tuna salad sandwich makings so he can have easy lunches."

Scott came in as I said that and he said, "That sound like a good idea. I know you have off a bit this week and plan on walking around the property but I am going to be busy. I was thinking we have the cheddar brats in the freezer why don't we make that and fries for dinner."

Going into the fridge and took out some bacon to make breakfast. I asked Scott if he ate and he said, "I did. I finished the bread from the other night. But how about you make some flat breads for this week. We can even use them with dinner tonight."

I smiled and asked, "Would you like assorted flavors?"

"Yes please," He said.

"Well I am going to work on that while I get some cleaning done," I said.

He kissed me and said, "Well Shane and I are leveling the ground and hopefully will have the sides to the pool up by dinner tonight."

"Well later tonight we are supposed to have some rain so if it is up and lined we can catch some rain water," I said. "Then it won't cost us as much to fill it."

When Scott left I started some laundry from what was in the hamper and what we used around the house. Putting the chicken on to boil for the salad. Making myself some breakfast I cooked up extra bacon to add to the chicken and egg salad. Then I mixed up the flat bread dough that needed to raise in double batches and different flavors. When I was finished cleaning I went into the kitchen and started to roll out the flat breads and cook them while I made the salads. When I was done making everything I put it in the containers and into the fridge. Walking to the greenhouse I did a bit of weeding and decided to take a walk along the property.

Following the property line along the river I walked and saw an old tent. I saw there was plastic totes of items and a grill. Closing my eyes I knew I had found where my Dad had stayed. I felt a breeze go past me and asked, "Who is there?"

There was no response I said, "My name is Cami and I am the new owner of the property. When your ready to introduce yourself I will be glad to meet you."

Continuing along the path I came to the back corner of the property. It was over run with brush and I saw what I thought was burial markers. Not wanting to mess with it yet I followed the wall. When I was a few feet from the middle of the wall I looked back toward the cabin and saw smoke coming from the brush and tree line. Thinking that there could be squatters I went to the area I saw the smoke. There was the foundation to an old house with a fire place standing tall. There was no fire in the fireplace but there was smoke coming from the chimney.

I called out, "Okay I saw the smoke so you must want to talk with me. Who are you?"

The breeze picked up and I heard a voice say, "Find the journals when you are ready."

Walking the foundation I found a latch and when I went to touch it I said, "Not yet. I need some time to settle in. I will be back for you."

Walking towards the house I saw the bandits running through the orchard and said, "Guys do not be starting any trouble I am not in the mood do you hear me?"

Sam stopped and said, "Yes Maam. We like you, you have not shot at us once."

"Well behave and I will have no reason to alright?" I said. "Did you cause the smoke from the old home?"

Jim looked back and said, "No Miss we spirits are not allowed on that property. We can see it but we cannot go there."

"Thank you," I said. "I am going back to the house now you boys have a good afternoon."

Walking through the property I found Scott and Shane putting up the walls to the pool. When Scott noticed me he said, "What have you been up to?"

Chuckling I said, "Exploring the property. I may have found a graveyard in the back corner but I did not want to get into the branches so I stopped when I could not walk back. I may have also found my Dads tent and belongings. Everything is safe in the tent so I am leaving that there for now."

Scott said, "Take your time on it Cami. Do not push yourself."

"Well I will not push myself but I think I am exploring to figure out the paths I want to put in and where we are going to have our wedding ceremony," I said. "But that won't be for a while yet. I think my first project is going to be the barn. That way we can consider getting animals on the property. But I will let you guys get those walls up I feel like a storm is coming in and I want to explore the front of the property as well."

I walked around the house and to the barn. Opening up all the doors and windows I saw that it needed to be cleaned out and parts of the roof needed to be fixed. Outside the barn I found a huge bin for animal waste to make our compost pile. Bringing the wheel barrow inside I started to clean out the stalls in the barn and bring the waste to the huge compost bin.

As I wheeled the wheel barrow back in and worked on the first stall I heard, "You did not tell Scott about finding the original cabin."

Turning I said, "No because as close as he is to it, he would have seen and smelled the smoke Malakai. I believe only the people who need to see it see it. Also Why can you ghosts not go in there?"

"I believe that is our portal to the afterlife," He said. "Not the afterlife here on earth but heaven and hell."

"Well for now," I said. "Lets ignore the original cabin. So Why don't you educate me about the barn. I see she needs some handy work and a good clean but while I clean tell me about the animals and why in the world we have two chicken coops."

"Well one is a chicken coop and one is a duck pen," He said. "If you follow the path around you will see a hole in the ground that is covered for meat ducks. Both the coops are quite spacious and then you have the four cow stalls for milk cows. Then you have the pig pen, rabbit pens, sheep pens, horse stalls, The chicken coop, The barn holds a variety of animals but she does need a good clean out and some repairs. But you have plenty of time."

"Well I want to get chickens and not sure if I want ducks or game birds," I said. "I see the game bird cages in the one barn stall. So much cleaning to do."

Malakai chuckled and said, "You see my predicament and why I was obsessed."

"It is a lot of work," I said.

"I will say when I was raising quail here my wife preferred the meat to ducks," He said. "However that being said they are a fast meat to grow fatten and harvest. My wife would make an amazing pot pie with them."

"You know a homemade chicken pot pie does sound good," I said. "I may have to make one tonight for dinner."

Scott walked in and said, "Make what?"

"Malakai was telling me how his wife would make pot pies out of game birds," I said. "I was thinking of making a chicken pot pie for dinner instead of the brats."

Scott asked, "With a biscuit topping I love when you make it with the biscuit topping."

"Yes," I said. "With the biscuit topping."

Scott said, "Well I was going to cook the brats but that sounds so much better. You going to use the wood stove?"

"Sure am," I said. "My goal now is to be more self sufficient. Besides the pool I am thinking of adding an outdoor kitchen later on plus a larger patio for the grill. But can you imagine an outdoor kitchen with a bread or pizza oven, a cast iron wood stove, sink and preparation area?"

Scott laughed and said, "Well off the greenhouse there is that pile of rocks. We could clear that and build the outdoor kitchen there?"

"You may not want to move the stones," Malakai said.

"Why not?" Scott asked.

"Because that is where the water drains off the house and under the stones gets muddy, It forms a small stream that goes down  to the river." He said. "Ellies husband was the one who put the stones there to keep the ground solid and have a way across. However you could build a patio above the rocks so the water still drains and the ground is protected. When it rains the water is diverted from the rocks and goes behind the pool and to the river. I can show you the next big rain."

Scott said, "We could do a raised kitchen off the back with a cover. That would be better than diverting the water. Do you have any other places that form rivers or streams?"

"A few," Malakai said. "You will see similar rock piles throughout the property. It is easier to notice during the rainy season. Thankfully the river that boarders the land does not get very high."

Stretching I said, "Well I think I am done working out here today. I am going to get dinner started. I will think about what kind of animals I want in here after I get the whole barn cleaned out and we repair what needs to be fixed."

Walking back to the house I started the wood oven thankful for the new air conditioners. Taking down the jar of the freeze dried chicken and I started to reconstitute a two cups of the meat. While I did that I cut fresh vegetables to add to it and started cooking them on the wood stove. When the vegetables were done I added the meat and a can of cream of chicken soup. While that bubbled I made a quick biscuit topping and layered it on the top of the mix. Placing it in the oven I went to the office and wrote until my timer went off for the pot pie.

Walking to where Scott was working on the pool I said, "Dinner is done. Do you want to eat now or wait a while?"

He looked up and said, "Let me clean up. By then I will be ready to eat."

Scott cleaned up the tools and I said, "You made so much progress. Your almost done."

He laughed and said, "Well we saw on the news we are supposed to have rain on Tuesday night and all day Wednesday so I figured if we can get it in before hand we can let the rain help us fill it."

"That sounds like a good plan," I said. "By next weekend we can start swimming in the pool."

Laughing he said, "Just in time for the summer heat. Shane thinks the pool would help Shiloh's injuries."

"Oh that would be great if it could help her," I said.

Scott said, "Give me a few more minutes and I will be inside to wash up and we can have dinner."

Smiling I went inside and set the table getting everything set up. When Scott came in we sat down after he washed up and ate. While we ate he asked me, "So did you want to get some animals for the barn?"

"I would like to," I said. "Definitely chickens. I would also like to add a horse or two later since we have such a large piece of property it would be nice to ride again. But first things first we need to clean it out and get it fixed out. Not including safe for animals. I would not want to bring any animals into the barn if they would not be safe in their."

He nodded and said, "I agree. Once the pool is in I will work on getting the barn fixed up."

"Well I will be helping," I said. "Since this is a light work week I will be out there and cleaning it. What kind of animals would you like?"

He smiled and said, "I like the idea of getting chickens and horses. I was also thinking of a dairy cow? Would you like fresh milk?"

"I would love to get a milk cow," I said. "We both seem to handle filtered milk a lot better than the store bought. Also the cream and butter milk we could get by making our own fresh butter. But for now lets get the barn fixed and see what we can do"

"Well we can definitely see what we come across but I agree I do not want to place animals until we know they would be safe," He said.

As we ate we talked about different animals and I said, "I know we could raise quails for meat as well. The idea of butchering scares me but it would be a great way to cut expenses and we both have had quail at restaurants before."

Scott said, "Pigs as well."

We ate and talked about the animals we would get. After a while we cleaned up our mess and headed up to our room. When it was time for bed he asked, "Do you know when you would like to get married?"

Smiling I said, "I was thinking in the fall If not this year, next year. I do not want to go broke with expenses or rush us to get the property ready. I know we want to celebrate with family and friends. Is that alright with you?"

He hugged me and said, "Next fall would be great. This fall may rush us a bit and your right we can start to get things slowly and get the property ready including the driveway. With the rainy season coming we would have to fight the weather to lay the driveway and paths."

"Your not upset about waiting?" I asked.

He laughed and said, "No not at all. We knew it would be forever regardless of a wedding or not. I want to make sure your alright with waiting. So tomorrow during dinner we can look at dates for next fall and see what we like the best and pick one."

I started to giggle and he asked, "You figured out a date didn't you?"

"Yes it just so happens the anniversary of us moving in together is on a Saturday next fall," I said.

"October fifteenth?" He asked.

"Yes," I said. "How about next year on October fifteenth we make this all official?"

He walked over and kissed me. When he pulled back he said, "I think that works great."

Smiling I said, "Well then we have over a year a a half to to prepare. I was thinking that we could build a covered pavilion."

"For the ceremony?" He asked climbing into the bed.

"No for the reception," I said. "I want to build up the front walking paths and in the center there is a big open space for the ceremony. I was thinking of building a pavilion. Kind of like what the old  community had to cover all the picnic tables. Then we will have a party pavilion after the wedding. I was thinking about even adding a bathroom so we do not have to get porta potties."

"Do you have any idea where you want to put a party pavilion yet?" He asked while I climbed into bed.

"Not yet I was going to walk around the property this week and look," I said. Pulling up the blanket I said, "I would like to decide early and then we can plan on having it built and no surprises on where we will be having the ceremony and reception.

Scott started laughing and said, "My planner. I think you will have everything planned well before we are six months out to make it go smooth and easy. Also if we are going to add a bathroom to the party pavilion, we better add full electricity so we can use the the pavilion all the time."

Snuggling up to him I said, "That sounds like a great plan."

Falling asleep I started to dream about the future of the property. As if I am flying over the property I saw a party pavilion and animals in the barn. Then I came up to the house and there on the porch was Scott and I with a little girl in braids and my stomach was blooming with pregnancy for a second time.
