It was well after dark and I headed back to my rooms at the boarding house. My employer had kept me longer than he should have today and when I mentioned the sun was setting he had said I could stay at his home in the building. I declined and left for the boarding house.
Why you may ask is it important that we are in by dark? That is easy, our world has a tentative agreement with the dragon lords that the dragons can hunt at night. My employer was trying to cause a scandal by having me stay in his home.
I walk quickly to the boarding house and as I reached the door I hear flapping overhead. I pushed the door open and made my way in as the caretaker, Mts Sally came out of her quarters. Sge looked at me and said, "What in the world are you doing out so late?"
I sighed and said, "My employer wanted to cause a scandal and tried keeping me at their home."
She took my hand and led me to the kitchen. She opened the cooling oven and placed food in front of me as she said, "Eat, child. You need to go to the council in the morning and make a complaint. Your employer knows the rules, and he broke them. We will find you a new job."
Nodding, I ate the food and said, "I agree. The dragon lords and council do not like that people use the alliance to break the rules."
She sat down with a cup of tea and said, "If you want, I will go with you. I can be your witness and hold your hand."
Sqeezing her hand I said,"I would like that. Thank you."
She smiled and I ate. When I was full she handed me a water jug and come cake and cookies wrapped in a napkin. She walked me up to my room, and she said, "Sleep and I will wake you in the morning."
I hugged her and she whispered, "One day child you will laugh about everything."
Going into my room I set the water and snacks down and changed into my pajamas. I sat at the small table in my room and started to pick at the snacks she gave me. I needed to report my former boss as I knew he has ruined at least four woman from the office and I will not be the fifth.
