Living A Double Life

 A voice quietly whispered in my ear.

"Heads up Victoria he is almost to your location." I shifted in my seat to see the mark heading my way.

I put my phone up to my ear and said, "I see him. Does he know who I am? Does he know that he is supposed to join me?"

"Yes," Simon said, "Make sure you have the red bag on the table.'

I shifted the bag so it would be more predominant on the table. That's when a small little man who resembles a toad came up to the table and sat down. He looked at me and slid the red bag over so he could see my face.

"Are you Miss Smith?" He asked.

"I am," I replied. "Are you Mr Rodgers?"

He looked around and said "Yes."

"Don't worry Mr Rodgers we will get you out. Now if you do not mind please pass over the package," I said. "Payment first."

He slowly slid a USB drive toward me. I took it and acted like I dropped it in my purse and set it down next to me. I slowly slid the drive into my blouse pocket. Raising my hand I signaled my team to move in. I looked at Mr. Rodgers and said, "Just go with it."

He nodded as one of my guards Frank walked over and said, "Jim is that you? You ole son of a gun. Fancy running into you in Miami. You wanna come with me to my boat for a drink and catch up?"

Mr. Rodgers looked a bit shocked but said, "Yeah why not being on the water would be better than a cafe anytime. Let me just say goodbye to my friend here."

He turned to me and took my hand in it he slipped a piece of paper. He lifted my hand and gave it a kiss, "Until next time my dear."

Then him and Frank headed off to where logistics and the company yacht was anchored. After he left I looked at the paper he handed me and it said, 'Thank you for saving my life. Know that your husband is being unfaithful to you and your in danger from him.'

I looked up as he was heading away and realized that he just confirmed what I already knew. After the guys left I had Simon in my ear, "Victoria you okay?"

I put my phone up to my ear and said, "Sure thing doll I just had something confirmed that I had already thought was happening."

Simon was silent for a moment and then he said, "So you need to take a few days off?"

Thinking about it I said, "No but I need an email sent to my personal email about a 7 day business trip. We will talk about why when we get back to base."

I flagged my waiter and flashed a brilliant smile, He came up and said, "My sweet it looks like your friend went away with the boys."

Smiling harder i waved my hand in the air and said, "Well boys will be boys. This is for you sweet man and I hope you have a wonderful day."

I handed him the funds for my drink and gathered my things and headed back to the airbnb Simon had procurred for todays adventure. When I walked in he looked up from the table and said, "I sent the email as you asked what's going on Victoria?"

I handed Simon the paper Mr Rodgers gave to me. He read it and said, "You want me to set something up?"

I sat down at a chair across from him and said, "Not yet Simon I am going to take a few days under the ruse of a overseas trip and follow him around. I will bug the house when I get home and start to get ready for my trip."

Simon got up and handed me a sleeve of what looks like clear bandaids. "Use these and it will pick up everything and they are very nondescript."

When I took them he grabbed my hand and said, "Be careful kid I am worried about what is going on with this."

"I will Simon," I said and I turned to leave. I turned back when i got to the door. "Listen Simon do me a favor check in via email just in case."

Simon nodded and said, "Understood."

As i was driving home I thought about the information that Mr Rodgers passed off to me. Thinking about stuff that has happened between me and my husband Mike I started thinking about how the signs were right in front of my face. I mean I knew he had at least one affair but he had not said anything to me and had not had another as far as I knew. But with this job I was not always home and some days I am working long hours. He seemed to have been a perfect husband but was working a bit longer in the evening on a special project. When I was almost home Mike called me. I picked up and said, "Hey Babe what's up I am almost home."

"Vitoria sweetheart I was wondering if you could meet me at Michelinas?" He asked, "I am almost there and would love to have dinner there."

"Sure I would be able to do you mind if I stop at home first?" I asked, "Or do you want me to go  there first?"

"Well I would love to meet you there first," He said.

"Okay I will be there in about 20 minutes," I said. After I hung up I called Simon.

"Hey Vitoria what up," Simon said. 

"Simon could you do me a favor and check my video cameras to see if anything seems off," I asked.

"Victoria where are you?" He asked sounding worried.

"I am on my way to Michelinas why? Mike asked me to meet him." I asked, "What is going on Simon?"

"Vitoria your house looks like someone is packing up everything," He said. "I am on my to Michelinas and watch what is going on. Take your time getting there I need 15 minutes and get valet parking."

Heading to Michelinas I pulled off just before the restaurant and waited till I saw Simon pull up and walk in. Following his lead I pulled up and got valet parking when I pulled up to the restaurant. Walking in I told the hostess I was meeting Mike here. She looked at me and said, "The party is waiting for you on the Patio do you want me to show you the way?"

Smiling I said, "No, I see a friend at the bar and I want to say hello first."

I walked over to Simon and he looked up and said, "Victoria! It's a pleasure to see you again, I thought I saw Mike on the patio, You will have to bring him by when you both go to leave so I can say hello."

"Simon, I thought you went out of town for business already," I gushed. "Of course we will stop by and see you. Enjoy your meal."

When I left Simon I headed to the patio and saw Mike sitting with an older man and woman. I walked out and said, "Mike I am so sorry it took me so long I saw my supervisor at the bar eating and I had to say hello. Especially since I am set to head out on business later today."

Mike stood up and placed a kiss on my cheek, "Victoria this is Otto and Marcia Fergusen. They are old friends of my parents."

Turning I said, "Its a pleasure to meet you. So what is the occasion of meeting up?"

Mike looked a bit uncomfortable and Otta cleared his throat and said, "Well young lady the reason we are meeting up is your husband broke his word to me and I am hoping you would be able to assist us in making this right."

Looking from Mike to Otto I followed up with, "Well that depends on what type of promise Mike broke. Otto I will say I am a person who does not like promises to be broken, but it seems like you want to tell me something that might be a bit uncomfortable."

Marcia looked at me saying, "Well my dear were you aware that your husband was having an affair and he made promises to my daughter to bed her and is still married to you."

Raising my eyebrow I looked at Otto and Marci and said, "I had my suspicions, However, I do work away a lot on business, so I just assumed I was being paranoid. Now I am assuming he promised to marry your daughter am I right? Well, that will not be any problem your daughter can have him she can have the house and most of the belongings. I will have an officer follow me back to the house and have my belongings removed immediately."

Otto looked at me surprised, "You will give him up that easily?"

Giving a half grin I became very matter-of-fact and said, "Otto as I said I am not happy with people who break promises, If he could not hold to our marriage vows I hope he will keep his promise to your daughter. Now as I said all I need to do is go to my house and get my belongings. He can keep the home I just want to get a few things that were family heirlooms and my own personal belongings."

Mike cleared his throat and said, "Well thats the problem Otto and Marcias daughter has already moved your belongings into crates and I added all of your parents belongings personally."

Looking at Mike I said, "So you think I am going to believe your word? I am leaving here and heading to my home with a police escort. So if your mistress is there I would suggest that she leaves now because I am heading there and I have every legal right to do so. I legally live there and paid the bills for everything. Now unless there is anything else I would suggest you bring it up now."

Otto lowered his voice and said, "Listen here young lady you will not be bothering my daughter or so help me--"

Simon walked up and said, "Well sir I hope you are not threatening my client as I am her lawyer as well as her employer. She has every legal right to get her belongings. Victoria I have a team enroute to your home to get the crates and I have called our contact with the local law enforcement to meet us there so you can verify that all your belongings are taken from the property. Also I contacted our superiors and was advised that you will be moving into the business apartment building and have a executive suite being set up for your arrival. Would you like me to drive you to your home?"

I pushed my chair out and said, "Thank You Simon I appreciate it. Mike you will be hearing from our law team and I am heading to the house now so I would appreciate it if your mistress is not there when I arrive."

Turning I went to leave when Marcia called out, "You have no clue who we are child you made a grave mistake."

I smiled back and said, "Well ma'am I hope you understand I am full of surprises and will not take threats likely."

As we walked out Simon said, "Don't worry I already have a team digging into that family as we speak."

Simon walked me out and said, "We will be taking my car as there was a person stalking around your car in the parking lot. I want to make sure they didn't put a tracker in it or listening devices."

"Sounds good Simon," I said. "I knew he was up to something but I didn't think he was ballsy enough to do this."

Simon looked troubled and as we pulled up to my home a black Corvette pulled out of the driveway. I walked into the house and saw boxes everywhere. While I looked around I grabbed a new crate and placed it on the kitchen table, Simon called the company and a van pulled up with a team to move my belongings. Simon directed them moving the boxes to the moving van and they awaited further boxes and packages. After I cleared the attic and the garage I started going room for room and I found pieces of furniture that I wanted because they were mine and I had the moving crew grab the pieces. As I directed them Mike pulled into the driveway with Otto.

"Victoria you cannot take the furniture," He huffed. 

"Mike I purchased those pieces I am choosing and I have the receipts. I have every right to take what belongs to me. You and your mistress can buy more." I said pointing to a painting that belonged to me. I added some collectibles that were mine and boxed them up.

As I went room for room I went into the master bedroom closet and went to the cupboard and there was all my formal dresses hanging there. I took the dresses and handed them to a mover and Mike was like, "Sabrine liked them I was gifting them to her."

"Mike they are not yours to gift," I said as the next mover came to take the next pile. I pulled the drawer and a mover came over with a box and I added all the boxes and accessories to the box.  I went through the dresser and pulled out my jewelry box from the top drawer, "Nice try Mike if there is any missing pieces you will have the police stopping by."

He walked over and pulled out a small satchel and said, "These were for Sabine I didn't think you would notice."

"Mike let me make this clear Except for you she cannot have anything of mine unless I do not want it." I pointed to my scarf holder and my antique mirror and the movers boxed everything and carried out the mirror.

Walking into the first guest room and I pointed to the closet and said, "Everything in there is mine please pack it." 

I walked under the bed and pulled out boxes of my moms vintage clothing. And said, "All the boxes under here as well. I pulled open the dresser drawers and said all the clothing in the dresser as well."

Looking through the rest of the rest of the room and pulled out knick-knacks and books that were mine. Simon held out the box and I placed them in. Mike and Otto became more and more upset. We finished all the rooms and office as the second moving truck arrived. I turned to the mover and said. "That foot locker and those tables come with me."

Heading into the kitchen i rubbed my temple and said to a mover we will need some more crates. Three movers came in and I said, "All the cast iron on the bakers rack and the rack as well. All the china in the hutch as well as all the drawer belongings."

Pulling out some small appliances and personal mugs and glasses were placed in a crate and I walked to the front closet. Opening the door I said, "Wow Mike you did such a bang up job."

I pulled out all my fishing gear, camping gear and snowboard, skis as well as all my coats and said to the mover, "This to please." 

I pointed to the paintings on the far wall and said, "Those."

The first van left and the movers waited for me to do one final walk-through, "Okay that looks like thats it. "You got all the clothes from the bedroom correct?"

"Yes Maam." The head mover said

Looking at Mike I said, "Now I do have all my belongings."

As i went to walk out the door I turned and said, "Oh and Mike I will have all the utilities shut off by tomorrow as they are all in my name. Might want to get them opened in your name as soon as possible the house gets warm without AC."

He stood in the door and said, "You can't shut them off. I need them on."

Turning I said sweetly, "Mike dear I will be shutting them off as I no longer live here as well as the cable and cell phones. You forget I pay for everything and you were living off my dime. Your user cards for all my accounts have also already been shut off and you have been removed from all my money. We will be filing for divorce with our law team tomorrow and remember that prenup you signed. You will be getting nothing from me."

As we walked out to Simons car I heard Otto yelling at Mike. As I started to laugh, Simon said, "I guess dear old dad didn't realize Mike is a broke man who was living off his wife. I made you a 9am appointment for tomorrow with the corporations lawyer. They are coming to your new place."

"Thank you Simon," I said. "You know what I am starving wanna go back and actually get some dinner when we pick up my car?"

Chuckling he said, "Why don't we go to the Mexican place next door instead. Just in case they show back up."

We drove to get my car and when I got to it I became concerned as it looked off, Simon called for a tow and had it brought to our warehouse for a full sweep. We headed into the Mexican Restaurant and asked for a table near the parking lot. We noticed that when the tow people got there for my car that Otto was outside smoking a cigarette. When the car was hooked up and taken away Mike came out and Otto said something to him. We ate as we watched Sabine and her mother join them. Sabine looked quite upset as Mike tried to calm her down. 

Simon chuckled as he sipped his drink and said, "I bet she is mad she can't have your stuff."

Chuckling I said, "She can have my leftovers but some of the items I had were my Grandmothers and mothers. They are no longer with me but having their things makes me feel like they are still here."

Simon nodded, "I understand, the watch I wear is my grandfathers. He gave it to me when he was diagnosed with cancer and I have not taken it off since."

"So Simon," I said. "Otto and Marcia what do you think?"

"Honestly Victoria I do not know," He said. "I am having the works done on them as they seem like new players to the game."

Looking over I saw Otto walk up to a man and I said to Simon, "Well Simon he has powerful contacts that Emilo Vegassi the mob boss."

"He just walked up to Mike and Sabine," I stated. "Okay that is a obedient little girl. She walked away as Emilio started to say something to Mike. What did he get himself into?"

"Victoria you had no idea he was living this double life?" Simon asked.

"No," I said. "I was tracking him like we agreed to with the watch I gave him. It always showed he was home or in mundane places like restaurants or public places. That and multiple hotels. He could have been there with her or with his new friends." 

"I have a bad feeling on this one," He said. "I have a sweep on all the items you have packed and the crates will be brought to you as they are cleared. Your new apartment is executive suite A and there is a temporary car in the garage spot for you to use until we find out whats up with your car. The luggage you had in there has already been cleared and brought to your apartment."

We were finishing our meal when we heard shouts from Michelinas. Looking across the parking lot we saw Otto yelling at the Mob Boss and Mike trying to calm the situation. The woman were standing behind two guards and were being brought back inside. Simon looked at me and said, "I have the video camera hacked into already and the footage from your visit with mike as well as all the conversations around all perspective people there."

"I cannot wait to hear the highlight reel," I said. 

We headed to Simons car and he drove me to my new home. I found my luggage on the counter and a few of the crates we packed along with a note. Hey Victoria we will get this all processed asap. This is the first of what was cleared. 

I went to my new room and unpacked my luggage. Then I went to the entry way and found even more boxes stacked. I spent the rest of the day unpacking and when I was tired enough I headed to bed. Setting an alarm to meet the lawyers I fell into a fitful sleep.

When I woke the following morning I found the entry way to the apartment full and a note stating they already found one bug and had to process the remaining items. My stomach growled and I headed to the cafeteria of the company. I needed coffee and something to eat. In the cafeteria I heard, "Victoria I was just going to stop by at your apartment."

"Good morning Milton were we supposed to meet at my apartment?" I said. "I thought we were meeting in your office."

He smiled and said, "We were but I was done early. I am happy I needed a coffee and found you here. If you don't mind whenever you finish you food come into my office."

"As soon as I am done I will be there," I said. When Milton left I finished my egg sandwich and after getting a second coffee I headed to the law office.
