A New Chance

She couldn't believe it as she pulled into her driveway.  His truck was there which meant only one thing. She started walking up to the front door when she heard a car pull up behind her she slowed to a stop.

"Did they really think they wouldn't be caught this time?" He asked walking up beside her.

"It doesn't matter now. I am done with his ways," She whispered fighting back tears.

"Shall we?" He said opening the house door. I walked in and walked to the bedroom where is I kicked the door open.

There in my bed was my husband getting ridden by Mark's girlfriend. She looked at us with such anger on her face you would have thought we were the ones doing something wrong.

"I guess since you guys are fucking in my bed," I yelled, "It means everything you said was a bull shit lie."

She turned over and looked at Mark and said, "What did you expect with your book tour and online presence I was lonely and wanted to have fun."

"Hannah," Andrew started. "You just got boring to me. I mean seriously just like Mark you are either writing or online working what was I supposed to do.  Nothing special about you whatsoever."

I smirked, "Nothing special about me? Really, you are full of yourself. My nothing special has allowed you to be a loser and not work for months now.  But that's ok, you can think that because as I walked in all your cards were shut off and closed. You have nothing."

He pushed Amber off of him.

"You can't do that," He said trying to stand and cover.

I laughed, "Oh, not only did I but its even better.  Remember that pre-nup that Grams had you sign before we got married?. Well guess what you get nothing. You didn't read it and it stated if you were ever unfaithful and there is evidence you get nothing. The house, cars, money are all mine. Your lucky I am letting you leave with the clothes on your back.  But I am nice here is $500.00 you have 1 hr to pack and leave. If you try to destroy anything or take something that is not yours it is on camera. So be a big boy and pack and go. I wrote the number of a taxi service on the envelope. I will be shutting your phone off tomorrow when i go to redo the plan. Your access to everything we had is shut off or been revoked. Enjoy!"

"Hannah wait!," Andrew called as I walked towards the stairs. "I thought you wanted a family, what are you going to do now?"

I started laughing. "I am selling the house and one of the cars and moving. You forget I can work anywhere. Did you honestly think that I was going to just sit around and cry for you? I might write romance novels but with you, there has been none."

I heard Mark telling Amber the same thing and he joined me at the top of the stairs. As we headed outside he asked, "Well Hannah what are you going to do while you are waiting for him to leave?"

I chuckled, "Well, I knew he was doing this for a while, The cameras have been up and I know the evidence is being reviewed by my lawyer.  I have a potential buyer for the house.  When I said I can work from anywhere I meant it. I am heading to the local RV center to look at some pull behind campers. When I told Andrew that I was selling everything I am actually keeping his truck and selling my car.  I am going to write and start a new adventure that's going to be a book series and a huge chapter on my blog."

"You are going to blog your travels and write a book about it?" He said, "Wow Hannah you sure you want to do this alone?"

"Yeah, I actually am. You know what give me a second." I ran inside and grabbed the keys to the truck. I walked back outside and moved my car. "I might as well take the truck with me so the RV place can help me match the best RV to go with my truck. But first I want to take this truck to get it cleaned out because oh my this truck is a mess."

Mark laughed as he shut the door after I climbed in, "So are you really okay with the situation Hannah?"

"No I am not Mark, However, I am not pining away for someone who threw away our marriage and future. He used me plain and simple. I am going to do what I planned to do when we first met. Travel the country and eventually travel the world and write and live a life I deserve."

"Well, Hannah I wish you the best life ever then.  Let's meet up before you leave and have dinner.  I hate what has happened but you will always be my friend." Mark said, "But go before they come out because Amber is gonna be pissed I had my brother drive her car to his house and hide it."

Mark walked to his car and drove away.  I pulled out of the driveway as Andrew and Amber left the house. They looked furious when I rolled down the window and asked if they locked the house.  Andrew walked back to the door and locked the door and they waited at the end of the driveway when I pulled away. They deserved each other. I will never regret working and doing what I loved and neither of them has any redeemable qualities to get further in life.

As I pulled onto the highway my spirits started to rise as I looked forward to a new chapter in my life. 

Chapter 2

We headed to court and Andrew tried everything to get the judge to make me pay alimony or to let him live on my dime while the house was being sold. My lawyer shut every motion down. When I took the stand Andrew's lawyer tried making me out to be a workaholic who was having affairs and never thought about him.  

"Hannah is it true that you would leave Andrew for weeks on end for book tours and signings without any thought to his needs," He asked.

"No that's incorrect," I said looking at the judge. "Sir my lawyer has a file of text message conversations where I asked Andrew to come all over the world with me.  If you look he declined each and every time.  As for being a workaholic, I was the only person in our relationship who worked. I also have a file with conversations where Andrew would get upset at me for working and when I asked him to get a job so I could cut back he would make excuses."

"Your honor I object," His lawyer said.

Judge Helney looked at my Lawyer, "Do you have these conversations on you?"

My Lawyer Maggie looked up and said, "Your honor I have copies as well as submitted the evidence to the opposing council 2 weeks ago. I also have the slip from the courier service with Mr. Carson's signature as well showing he received it."

Judge Helney looked at Mr Carson and asked, "What are you exactly objecting to?"

"Your Honor those documents could have been doctored," He started.

"Mr Carson these documented conversations were printed off of the Tmobile website. Do you want to really pursue this?" He asked.

"No your honor,"He said.

I heard Andrew's mother Susan in the audience, "Everyone always sides with her. My child did nothing wrong."

Judge Helney looked up and said, "If I hear one more outburst from the gallery you will be held in contempt and serve one day in lockup."

"This is ridiculous," Susan said standing up. "Everyone is siding with her just because she has written a few pathetic books and runs a pathetic and unchristian website.  My son deserved to be taken care of after having to deal with her and her never giving him a child."

"Thats enough," Judge Helney bellowed, "I have heard enough. Baliff remove this woman and send her to the holding cells. As for this case Hannah what are your plans with the house and the divorce."

I looked at the Judge and said, "Well your honor as you can see via the prenuptial agreement if Andrew had any affairs he would receive nothing. I made sure I had enough evidence before I moved for a divorce. I have a buyer for the home and my real estate agent said closing should be in about thirty days time. If not less. I am waiting on a timeline from my agent which I should have later today.  As for the household belongings I purchased everything. I do have a couple of boxes of Andrews's belongings which he will need to pick up before the sale. The items I am keeping have been slowly being moved into the RV I just purchased for the new chapter in my life."

"Very well," Judge Helney said. "I see you are ready to move on. So I am granting your lawyer's motion for divorce. Mr Carson your motions for alimony or a percentage of the profits for the sale of the home have been denied. The prenuptial agreement was signed by and was witnessed. Andrew knew what he was signing when he agreed. So as of today August 11th, 2013 you are no longer married and divorce documents will be ready in seven days time."

I walked over to my lawyer and shook her hand. "Thank you Maggie."

"Its my pleasure Hannah I will have the papers ready when I meet you for the home sale. Also, have you decided how you are going to handle the mail situation?"

"I have actually,"I said. "The travel trailor is rather small and used just for travel. I actually purchased a cottage in Winter Village. If you saw the design of the home it has a mail drop slot. I went and purchased a basket to catch what is delivered while I am away and the main office has a package holding room for any large packages that are delivered. The cottage is an amazing investment and my travel trailer has its own parking spot under a carport on the property. I been going through the house slowly and taking trips to the house with furniture and belongings for both the home and RV. I am lucky I have family that has been helping me move furniture over and been giving away what I will not be using. I have a niece Kelsy who is getting married next month and she has loved some of the furniture that I am not taking with me or the items I do not need. I call her 2-3 times a week to pick stuff up and she and her fiance are so thankful to be given stuff to help start their new home."

"Oh that's wonderful and I have looked into winter village and have thought about a cottage there myself. Could you share what you spent on your cottage and the size," She asked as we walked out of the courtroom.

"Oh yeah," I said. "I got an amazing deal its 3 bedroom 2 bath with a large eat-in kitchen. There is a office nook and a nice living room. It also has a garage and the carport to cover the RV. Also a screen porch and mini greenhouse on about a 1/4 acre of land. I lucked out and would have paid 95000.00 but since I paid cash they knocked off 20000.00 off of it."

"So you hid money from me during our marriage." Andrew came up and said as he got in my face.

"Andrew I never hid anything from you. But the savings I had was savings for the future or emergencies. Now please leave me alone, there is nothing left between us. I will leave your belongings outside the door or we can arrange a police-escorted pick up when your ready to pick up your stuff." I said as we walked past.

He grabbed my arm and swung me around, "Who do you think you are?"

"Andrew I am your ex-wife Hannah Montclair, blogger and writer who no longer needs to deal with you."

Maggie waved over an officer as I tried to get Andrew off of me. When he wouldn't let me go the officer warned him he would be arrested and finally had to remove him from me and arrested him. After that Maggie and I left and headed our separate ways.  I looked at my phone and realized that I had a call from my real estate agent.

I dialed Dan and was shocked he picked up after the first ring, "Hannah thank you for calling me back right away. Did court go okay?"

"It went very well Dan, Andrew was arrested for harassment after we were officially divorced.  I am on my way to get some takeout and work on cleaning out the house and moving." I said following up with, "Did you speak with the buyers? What kind of time frame are we looking at?"

"Well, Hannah I hope you're not going to be writing a lot in the next two weeks. The buyers want to close 10 days from tomorrow. I know you have been cleaning out the house but your house is stacked with stuff can you be out in 8 days so we they can do the final walk-through on day 9 and we close on day 10." He said, "Also as they are taking as is pending a value inspection next week do you think you can really get it all done?"

I smiled, "Sure thing Dan I been going through stuff and moving for the last two weeks between blog posts. The room has tewnty nine rooms including closets, shed, garage and attic. A lot are almost cleaned out all the way. I guess I will be packing and moving a lot in the next eight days. A lot of work but I will get it done."

I headed to Panera to get a sandwich and headed home. When I pulled up I put the Garage door up and backed in. I left the door halfway down and went into my office with my food and did a fun blog article while I ate about the packing of the house. Then I headed to the attic stairs. I pulled open the door and headed up. I pulled the light switch and realized that this was the most organized room in the house. 

When I headed into the Attic I got started right away and in a few hours, I had three piles. My truck help the belongings going to my new home. A pile next to the front door for Kelsey to come pick up. Then a pile of Andews things that looks like I will be dropping off to his sisters if he cannot come to get them. As I was removing the last box of Andrew's comics from the attic and stacking them on a folding table I had in the garage my phone rang. I looked at the caller ID and saw that it was Andrews's sister Jessie.

I picked up the phone, "Hey Jessie what's going on?"

"Was my brother that stupid to try to start with you after you are all divorced," She said. "I swear to god if it wasn't for the fact our mother wouldn't take him in I would never have let him stay here. Hannah, are you okay I still can't believe Andrew did that to you?"

I laughed, "Hey Jessie. I'm okay just dealing with everything. I have 9 days to get this house taken care of and it's a bit stressful at the moment. Especially now that I do not know if he will be able to pick up his stuff."

"Well, Hannah I will help out on his front. I will swing by and pick up what you have together for now as he is staying in my pool house. That way it's loaded in there and he has it and you can move on after all the crap he put you through." She continued, "I hate him for what he did. The only reason he is staying with me is because I could use help with Mom."

"I know Jessie. Just call me when you are on your way and I will meet you from where ever I am in the house." I said, "Thank you."

After we ended the call I updated the blog stating that we were down to 28 rooms and 9 days left and headed to the room that would have been the nursery.  I walked over to the closet and opened it up to clean it out when my phone rang again. I looked at the caller ID and saw that it was Kelsey.

"How is my favorite niece," I answered.

"Pregnant," She answered.

"Kelsey are you okay?" I asked.

"Yeah," She said. "We are excited we just didn't expect this. I am glad we didn't decide on what the room across from ours would be yet. Anyway, I saw the blog what are you doing?"

"Its funny you should asked." I started, "What are you doing right now?"

"Paul and I were gonna window shop baby things," She said laughing.

"Well why dont you have Paul get in his truck and you in the car and come to my house. I was going to start taking down the nursery. I think you can use these items instead of me donating them." I said, "Unless you want brand new items."

"Aunt Hannah that nursery was full are you sure?" She asked.

"Yup you will need the room in both cars as I have a lot of stuff for the house and you both," I said. "Also if Paul has a friend that can help that would be a big help for the bigger furniture."

Kelsey was so excited she was yelling at Paul to move it and to meet us over at my place after he got someone to help with the big pieces. We ended the call and I started taking items out of the closet and packing them up. By the time the doorbell rang and I headed downstairs I had half the closet packed up. I ran downstairs to find Kelsey Paul and Kelsey's brother Mike at my door. I laughed as Mike muscled his way in saying, "Aunt Hannah I missed you."

After hugs were given I told the guys to take the newest pile and bring them to the new house. I heard Mike and Paul load everything up and leave as Kelsey and I went to the nursery to pack up the room. By the time the guys got back we had the closet completely packed and we were packing up the items around the nursery.

"I think we do not need any furniture at all and look at this travel system it comes with a car seat and everything." Kelsey said as she was taking all the clothes out of the dresser. "Aunt Hannah, is there anything in here you want?"

I smiled, "No sweetheart take it all. I want it to be used and I know there is no baby in my immediate future."

My phone rang and it was Jessie, "Hey Jessie I am on my way down to help you load Andrew's stuff."

I went downstairs and loaded everything that I had packed for Andrew and the guys helped load it all into Jessie's truck. When we were done the guys loaded all the baby items into Pauls truck and Kelseys SUV and headed to leave. I walked into the nursery and looked around We had packed everything and after double-checking the closet I shut the door and lights off in the room. I am glad that the baby stuff went to Kelsey. It did hurt to see the stuff I had purchased for my baby go but it wasn't meant to be.

After a quick update on the blog that I was down two more rooms, I locked up the house and headed upstairs. I went into the bathroom and decided after everything I did today it was time for a bath and bed.  Not bad for having 9 days left with 26 rooms to go.

I woke up the next morning ready to go. Walking into the kitchen I realized just how much I was looking forward to a new chapter in my life. I made a cup of tea when I heard a knock at the door. I opened the door to see Mark waiting outside. I moved over so he could come in.

"Hey, stranger how have you been doing?" I asked as I headed back to the kitchen. "Don't mind the mess I have 9 days to get through 26 rooms in the house for closing."

"I see you have made progress," He said looking at the fully stocked house. "I came to see if you wanted to get breakfast with me so we can talk. However, How about this I help you and order us take out and we still talk?"

Smiling I said, "Sure thing. I was going to work in the basement this morning if you are good with that." 

I opened the door and headed downstairs to the basement. Paul whistled when we got to the bottom then said, "Holy canners heaven."

I laughed, "Yeah its a hobby. Andrew hated the fact that I was a canner and I had all of this. He would never eat it. I guess its time to go through everything and sort. By the way since your such a willing helper if you want some of this I will be glad to share." 

I looked over at the wall and saw all of Andrews Funco boxes, "God I hate those things with a passion."

Mark laughed, "I now know where Amber got her obsession for them from. They are the reason I am here. Did you hear that Andrews mom decided to bail them out and is essentially moving into the maids quarters of her home and giving them the house?"

I stopped, "He is out of jail already?"

Mark nodded "He got out late last night and was made Jessie came over to get his stuff that was ready. I got home to Amber and him loading all of Ambers stuff into a moving truck. She bragged about their luck. There is more."

"Nothing suprises me Mark what else did they come up with," I asked as I loaded a crate with food to go in the camper.

"Hannah I don't want to upset you but they just found out Amber is having a baby. Thats why Andrews mom gave them the main house." Mark said. 

I stopped moving and just stood there. Mark realized that it hit me and walked over to me. He gave me a hug and said, "Hannah I know you had been trying for a baby after you lost one. I didn't want you to be blind sided when Andrew comes by to get his stuff."

Closing my eyes I counted to three and then I opened them and looked at Mark. "I appreciate you telling me but you know what if they are having a baby good for them. I hope they didn't expect to get anything from the nursery I had set up.  Kelsey called me yesterday and she was pregnant so her and Mark came over last night and I gave them everything." 

We went back to packing up the basement and my phone rang, I looked at the phone and said to Mark. "They are like Beetlejuice we said their name to many times."

I answered the phone, "Andrew do you think its wise to call me?"

"Hello Hannah I am calling to see if you have any more of my belongings ready?"He said.

"Actually Andrew yes I have about 6 boxes ready in the entryway. I will put them on the screen front porch and will be adding them during the day as I pack the basement and other rooms in the house." I said. "Your sister has more of your belongings from last night as well. She texted and said she gave them to you."

"Yes I got them and I will swing by after two to see what else you can add to the pile. I did want to ask you what did you plan on doing with the nursery items?" He asked.

I laughed a little and said, "Oh you mean you want my childs tings for you and your girlfriends baby? I know Amber is pregnant. But you will not get a peice of the stuff I had in there I already gave it to Kelsy as her and Mark are having a baby. Is there anything else? Pau and I are trying to have breakfast and pack this basement up."

"Mark is there?" He said, "Of course he is. He is probably trying to get you in bed."

"Really Andrew?" I said getting angry, "Sorry to disappoint you I am taking a break from the sex and dating world after how disappointing you were. I am putting all your things I pack up on the front screen porch and I will not be around you when you come to get the stuff. I will put the last batch out at 10pm tonight. If you do not come get the stuff it will stay there until you do. But at 1030pm I will lock the screen door."

"Fine Hannah," Andrew said. "I will pick the first batch after 1pm."

As I hung up the phone Mark took a box and sealed it shut., "Where are his other boxes?"

"They are labeled with his name next to the front door. The stuff going to my camper and my new cottage are getting loaded into my truck as I pack them." I said. "I have a feeling I will have to run to the new house soon enough as my truck will probably be packed up soon."

"Ok the food should be here in about 5 min so I will go wait for them," Mark said. "I also have a few baskets I am going to bring down to shop in the canning wall."

As Mark went upstairs I was laughing as I was filling a box with canned food that was going to be placed in the Camper. I marked that box as well as two more with various food and then carried them up to my truck. I looked at all my crafting totes and grabbed a small empty crate to fill for the camper. I put a handful of crafts and yarn for various projects. I marked the camper and ran that up to the truck. I moved all my camper boxes to the back seat of the truck and headed back down to start loading all my crafting bins and plastic drawer totes for the new house. Andrew hated that I canned and crafted but I think this will be a great thing to start up again.

Mark came back down with our food and coffee a few min later and he saw me moving the crafting totes. He showed me 4 big baskets and I replied, "Start on one side and you best fill all 4 of those baskets I will be coming behind you packing up what you leave." 

Laughing Mark gave me a salute and started packing up his first basket while eating his breakfast sandwich. I was eating my food as well as we worked around the canned food shelves. I packed up the main shelves as he filled his baskets. He helped me bring the shelving units up the stairs as we cleared the first two. Before I knew it we filled my truck. With Marks help I was able to pack and deliver more than 3/4 of my basement. We pulled back into my garage and went back down to the basement as my 1pm alarm went off. I was bringing up more of my crafting totes when I heard a noise on the porch. I peeked out the window and saw Andrew loading boxes into his Mom's SUV. That man would have nothing if it wasn't for his mom. I placed his boxes next to the door and waited for him to leave. When I saw him leave Mark set another pile of boxes outside. By 3pm we had finished the basement and Paul and Mike had come by to pick up the couch and other furniture. 

After Mark, Mike and Paul loaded up the last of the basement items going to Kelsey's house Mark and I sat in the kitchen. Mark asked, "Are you handling things Hannah? I know you truly loved him and I feel for you after everything you went through. Especially after losing the baby."

Sighing I said, "You know Mark losing the baby devastated me but to me honest maybe it was a blessing in disguise. I would be doing all this with an infant as I would not have let Andrew cheat on me with us having a kid."

Mark covered my hand, "You are strong Hannah don't forget that. So what are you doing now?"

Laughing I said, "I am going to start the pool house. Once i decide whats going where I will call Paul and Mike to come get what I dont need and want."

"You know its awesome your giving Kelsey and Paul so much." He said.

Smiling I said, "Kelsey is my godchild and when we lost her mama I had to make sure things went well for her. If giving her and paul the remnants of my shattered life help her and paul get started in life I will gladly help." I continued, "When my brother george bought the house for them he did it to keep them close and I understand that."

Mark chuckled, "Well I dont have to leave till 6. Then I have a meeting with my editor so I am yours to help with the pool house."

By the time we finished with the main room of the pool house, My truck was loaded up and and Paul and Mike came by with the truck for the beds in not only both guest rooms as well as the linens and the couch from the pool house. By the time Mark left at 6pm we have move the pool house daybed and table over to my house and I only needed to finish the smaller things in the poolhouse. I went into the pool house and finished cleaning out the entire building and locked it up with the AC set on low. Then I did something that needed to be done. I went up to Andrews closet and went through it and packed his things. It was funny that I found a lot of my valuables in it as I went I was glad I was checking pockets and bags. But before long I even made quick work of that and that was finished. 

I went into the Garage and looked at the clock. Besides my truck, there were shelves of belongings so I started with the first shelf and started working my way through. I was more than halfway through when my alarm started beeping for the 10 min till Andrew could come by. I closed the Garage door and shut off the lights. I made sure the from door was locked and went into the library and started boxing up books. I had boxes of books here for andrew but those would go out in the morning and he could pick Them up later. I heard Him and Amber on the porch. She was complaining about being here and the fact he couldn't get nicer things from me. I snickered listening to them. After they left I went upstairs to my room for the night. Tomorrow would be a long day but I should be able to pack up a good portion of the house and be out well within the time needed.

I woke up the next morning and got to work on the house. By the time I heard the doorbell ring at lunchtime, I had cleaned out my entire linen closet, entryway closet, kitchen pantry, and my office closet. Opening the front door I saw my ex-sister-in-law Jessie standing there. She looked angrier than ever and I asked, "What's wrong?"

"Your ex-husband is a pompas ass thats whats wrong," She said giving me a hug as she came in.

Laughing I said, "Well he is no longer my problem, However, Tell me what happened. Spill the tea."

She started laughing, "Well my mother called me this morning after Andrew cried and whined that you are giving him nothing but his belongings from the house. I told her that he never contributed so why should he get anything he signed a prenup when he got married. But you know my mom. Anyway, it looks like he has a bunch of stuff for him here still. I mean your are hardly done with the house."

"Listen Jessie he is mad I would not give him the nursery stuff for him and Amber. I gave everything to Kelsy. Besides he is a grown man and your mama needs to stop spoiling him." I said, "He can get over himself because I am following what the judge said and he can stop acting like a child."

I sighed, "Jessie you do realize that everything in this house belongs to me. Your brother has not worked in years except for his parttime job. I am giving him stuff that was given to us that he loved. I am being generous but after everything he caused, he is lucky he walked with the shirt on his back. Besides we had so much I donated a bunch to Kelsey. He did sign the prenuptial agreement and now after checking bills and seeing how much he spent on Amber I am glad I did have him sign it."

Jessie smiled and said, "Personally I would have a bon fire in the front yard going myself. But I have to keep the peace or mom wont watch the kids and I cannot afford a sitter with Jack being sick."

"Jessie," I said. "If you need money I will give you a loan. You should not have to struggle when your mom hands everything to Andrew."

She smiled, "Well as much as I would like to take you up on that offer I will not at this time. Jacks in a bad spot and I am resigned that he might not make it."

"Jessie you should not be working your ass off. You should be with your husband. I understand going to work is a small break but your pulling 10 hour days. Would your work let you have shorter shifts?" I asked.

"They said that I could drop down to five hours a day 4 days a week to maintain the health insurance. But besides insurance I have the mortgage and car payments. Although I am thinking of turning in Jacks car. I already considered taking the girls out of dance."

I looked at her and said, "No you and Jack will accept what I am offering. How much is your bills? Lets go to my office. First things first I know the girls go to dance at the school let me pay the next 6 months of dance as my gift to them. Do not argue and when they need recital outfits you let me know. I know you have the login information what is it?"

"Hannah---" She started.

"Jessie this is not open for discussion I will be damned if we lose Jack and there was something I could do about you being there more. You will regret it. Now we are gonna go in and I am offering as a gift to pay your mortgage for the net 6 months the girls dance and all your bills. As a gift. Your mother should do this but we know she is a bitch. So lets start with account information." I said, "I just ask you never tell Andrew or your mom. Just say someone cared enough to let you have what time you need time as a family with Jack."

"Hannah this is so much," She said. "Why would you do this for me?"

"Jessie I have known you since you were eleven years old. So before we start I want you to make a list of all your bills. Why you do that I am getting my bank to not cap my account today."

After jessie made her list of her bills and I arranged everything with the bank so I could pay out a lot of money on my blog checking account I had Jessie grab her list, my card, and my lap top and follow me to the library. It took her over three hours to get the next six months paid and credited to her account. When she was done I handed her a envelope with $5000 cash from my safe. She looked at me and said, "Did Andrew know you had this much money?"

Laughing I said, "No! Because he would have wasted it. The account I used for you to get your time is from my blog only. Every time I get $100.00  in views it deposits into this account and I have never touched the account except to pay taxes on it. I just don't want you to say anything to your mom and Andrew so they don't try using you."

Jessie laughed, "Well I assure you I will not say anything to anyone. I appreciate it, I know Jack is passing away and only a miracle will save him."

"Jessie the envelope i gave you has 5k in cash. Take the kids and Jack for a few weekends away if you can. Just don't tell your mom and Andrew that you are going. Do that for the girls," I said.

"Hannah that's to much to accept. You gave me way too much money already." She sighed.

"Jessie you and Jack have always been good to me," I said. "You are highschool sweethearts and if me doing this for you gives you that special last minute times with him I would give you all the money I had. I will always be there for you and the girls."

She walked around the desk in the library and gave me a huge hug. I hugged her back hard and then the door bell ring. Looking at her I said, "Its about the time your brother stops by for boxes."

She groaned and took her list and tucked it in her pocket. "He is probably here and being nosey."

I walked to the door and looked outside, "He is here with your mother."

Looking at me she said, "Oh god. Listen lets go outside the garage. I don't want them to take a chance to try coming in."

We went outside and she came around the corner as her mom said, "You should just be able to walk in it was your house."

Jessie said, "Well that would be a bad thing as he has no right to anything in that house. Hannah is being generous with giving Andrew his belongings. What did you want Mom?"

She looked at me and said, "There are not a lot of boxes out here we were wondering if you are stopping giving andrew his stuff."

Chuckling I said, "Well susan if you must know I was hanging with Jessie while I was packing the library. You know your son hated to read so most of the books in the library are mine. As your son knows I will place his stuff out there as I find it."

"well," She said. "You could have given him the baby stuff."

Scoffing I said, "You need to leave. I gave the baby stuff to someone who deserved it. I mean how are we to know that the baby is not pauls. Mark told me they had been active sexually up till the day we found out about the affair."

"That baby is mine Amber swears it is," He yelled.

"Well I hope you get that DNA test. I mean you don't want to be responsible for another mans child," I said. "I mean we know how you are with responsibilities. Now leave before I call the police. I told you your belongings will be here when I get to them."

Susan got up in my face and screamed, "I am calling the police you cannot do this."

"Susan go ahead," I said. "Remember I have a court order and I have a copy of that order. Now Andrew there are belongings on the porch you can remove them and there will be more later. I am almost finished with the library and I have a lot to do because I have to be out in 8 days."

I went to go into the house and Susan screamed, "I am going in and packing his stuff."

Turning around I said, "Go ahead and try your on camera and it has audio. I will call the police and have you arrested. If you want to add to your arrest record go ahead."

Jessie turned to them and said, "You guys need to go I am helping Hannah pack and you are really being difficult."

"Jessie if you go with her do not expect me to watch the kids when you need me," She said.

"Mom then don't watch them," she said. "Remember you play that card there are people who will watch them."

As we were walking away she said, "Wait till Jack gets worse and dies you will be begging for my help you can't do this on your own."

Jessie whipped around and said, "Well Mom I sure hope that baby is Andrews as you just lost contact with my family for good."

We walked inside and Jessie walked into the office and sat on a chair. She stood up and looked at the last shelf with my books and stood up and started packing. I let her calm down and when she did she said, "My mom is really a manipulative bitch."

Looking up packing some of Andrew's library decorations I asked, "Do you have people who will watch the girls?"

Laughing she said, "Honestly yes. Jack's family has offered but it was always more convenient to have mom watch them because she lived right next to the school. While we pack you up I will call some of his family and ask them. It's hard on his family to sit back and do nothing."

While we finished packing the library and the living room Jessie called Jack's family and started to ask about babysitting. Jack's mom had assured Jessie that they had no problem watching and helping with the girls. They also told her when Jack gets worse they will help with Jack and the home so he can stay at home longer. By the time the call ended, Jessie was relieved and her phone started to ring.

She looked at me and said, "It's the girl's school."

"Hello," She said.

I watched her as whoever was on the line was going on and on. Jessie's anger returned and she said, "Absolutely not they are not supposed to be taken out early. Listen I am calling the sheriff's office now and will be there in less than 15 minutes."

She hung up her phone and said, "Listen I wanted to help more but I have to go. My mother went to the school and tried to take them out. Thankfully the secretary saw me when I updated the school counselor this morning and knew I was picking the girls up after school. I am heading there now to go re"move her and Andrew from the pickup list. I also need to call Jack and tell him to not let my mother in."

"Jessie go I appreciate your help call me later and give me an update on what's going on," I said.

I put another box of Andrew's stuff outside as Jessie left and went back inside. I went to the first guest bedroom and packed up the room and closet then tagged what was going to my house and what was going to Kelsy. I headed to the second guest room and started packing up the closet when my phone rang. I looked at the screen and saw it was Kelsey.

"Hey Kelsey how are you", I asked.

"Hey Aunt Hannah I have a question for you." She said.

"Sure sweetie, Is everything okay?" I asked.

"Oh yeah everything is fine, You know Paul and I are so thankful for everything you gave us and are giving us but I was going to ask if you would mind if we could give one of the beds to Pauls dad." She asked.

"Of course, sweetie is Ben alright," I asked.

"Yeah he will be," She said. "He came home to some furniture gone as Lily decided to move out and take all the bedroom stuff."

"Oh i am sorry him and Lily didn't work out he really was head over heals for her." I said. "Well both guest rooms are pretty much packed up so whenever you all want to come get the second guest room and what I have set aside for you."

Laughing she said, "Okay do you have some big things for your house as well?"

"Yes, I do." I been tagging all the furniture in the rooms I finished and am almost ready to start in the garage. So whenever you all are ready I will be here."

"Ok been gets off of work at 5 so we will head over after that. Do you want anything?" She asked.

"Oh i would love a ice coffee." I said.

"Ok I will bring the coffee when we come and I will see you then." She ended the call.

Heading to the garage I did not want to be interrupted so I only opened the door a little bit to let some air in and started working my way through. As Andrew was never a handy guy I never had to worry about tools. I made quick work of packing the garage and put all of Andrews things he never used onto the porch. I tagged my washer and dryer and the deep freezer I had jessie take all the food from earlier in the day so they could be moved to the new house tonight. 

While I waited for Kelsey and the family to roll in, I decided to start taking apart the game room. I love gaming and that is one thing Andrew and I had in common. I loved vintage gaming and packed up all my vintage games and loaded them into my truck. I decided that since andrew loved the xbox so much and I was more of a ps4 girl I would give him the xbox and all the games. I put them on the porch as I saw him pull up. I quickly shut the door and locked it as I did not want to deal with him anymore. I packed more of his collectibles from the gaming room and put those boxes next to the door. By the time Kelsey arrived I had tagged all the furniture in that room as well.

Opening the door I gave Ben a hug and said, "Well I have a bunch of rooms done. After you all move the furniture out I am heading to the new house to unload my truck. Paul can you throw those boxes on the porch for me."

Ben said, "Well we were gonna move your furniture first so if you trust me I can drive your truck if you want to hang here with Kelsey and pack more."

"You don't mind?"

Laughing he said, "Of course not your saving this old man from having to sleep on the couch. I took my truck keys out and handed them over. I have some pieces in the guest rooms, office, and the game room for both of us and the room at the end of the hall is the bed set I am giving to you Ben. Its a king size with side tables and 2 dressors."

Ben whistled, "Hannah that is so much, but thank you."

As they loaded my bigger items into pauls truck I headed into the kitchen with Kelsey sipping my ice coffee. After the guys left I told Kelsey about the incident with Andrew and his mom. After I told her everything she asked, "I never understood his mom she is really fake. She comes into the Doctors office I work at and acts like she is the most spiritual person in the world."

Lifting a box I said, "I know. But now into the fun stuff the kitchen. You will be getting stuff from here. I hope you did not register yet."

She looked at me and said, "To be honest Aunt Hannah we didn't because you have pretty much hooked us up. We did ask for giftcards in leui of gifts. On the wedding site we mentioned people. Meaning you, have gifted us so much we don't need much. The wedding is weeks before black Friday so if we get gift cards we can shop the deals."

"Very smart. So as you know I am a hoarder when it comes to food. Get 3 really sturdy boxes and load up all the food you want. Its all non perishable so it will hold while you are still living at dads house."

"Aunt Hannah no one knows but Paul and I started staying at the house a few days ago. Paul moved in with his bed set since it was brand new and i moved in as Mom was trying to cause issues with the pregnancy wedding and stuff." She said.

"I don't judge Kelsey. If you want to start on one side of the pantry and work your way through you can pack the remaining for me as I start packing up the cabinets." 

A little while later we heard the garage open and then Paul and Ben walked in. They saw the boxes labeled on the counter so Paul and Ben loaded my boxes into the truck and then went for Bens bedroom set and it was a good thing they had 2 trucks as they needed both for the bedroom set. After they headed to bens place Kelsey and I continued on. After the guys came back they repeated loading all of kelseys boxes and the pantry was empty. They also moved all of my boxes into my truck and the guys packed all of the happy couple's belongings into both trucks and Kelsey gave me a hug and said, "I cannot believe how much you got done Aunt Hannah. We will swing by after my doctor's appt tomorrow. Is there anything else for the front porch?"

Looking around I said, "Nope his next box is not full yet."

I went to the garage door and waved as they left and shut the door as I saw Andrew pull in. I couldn't believe it was already going on 10. I decided to stop for the day and grabbed a Pepsi and went into my office. I made a blog post updating everyone and decided to take a bath and head to bed.

The following morning Kalsey, Paul and Ben came and Ben handed me a coffee and said, "We are yours all day. Lets knock this out."

We started at the shed and after pulling out Andrews's belongings and placing them on the front porch. Finishing up the shed within an hr.  I pointed to the pool area and said with the exception of the main table everything else was theirs. The guys took the trucks and unpacked at both houses and when they came back Kelsey and I packed up the game room. By the time Ben put another stack of boxes on the front porch he said, "I hope he has a big car the porch is packed. Which room next?"

I walked into the dining room and pointed to the corner china cabinet and said the stuff inside goes to him. Everything else goes to you guys I already took the few pieces I wanted out. As they all packed up the dining room I went over to the kitchen and continued to pack up stuff for Kelsey and I. Thankfully Andrew was never big into the kitchen so by the time they loaded up the truck and went to unload most of the kitchen was done. By the time the guys had come back Kelsey and I had the kitchen clear and were in my room. I pointed to the furniture and said all that goes to the master bedroom in my house. All the drawers are emptied and those boxes go to the front porch and everything else is mine. As they loaded up what was my room Ke;sey and I emptied the closet and boxed up my clothes. As they guys came back up Paul said, "We have to take a break because he is loading up his car and complaining about the amount of stuff he has to go through." 

They took the boxes and stacked them inside the hall to the garage as Kelsey and I cleared the last of the bedroom. After a laundry basket was full of all my bathroom stuff I grabbed the vacuum and vacuumed the top floor after I walked through and made sure there was nothing left up there.  I took my laptop and purse and put it on the kitchen counter. With all of us we cleared my office and the last 2 bathrooms in a matter of minutes. I gave the remaining house a final vacuum while kelsey cleaned down the kitchen counters. Paul took the vacuum and I lifted my computer bag and purse. As I went through the laundry room and into the garage i grabbed the key holder I had and locked the house. My truck was already in the driveway and I climbed in and everyone headed to my new house to help me unload the last of the stuff. I called Dan and told him the house is good to go and that the new owners can close whenever they are ready. 

After I pulled into the driveway of my new house I realized that this was it my home. Andrew could not dictate to me about anything. I sent him a text message that read. "The last of your stuff is on the porch the house is empty so I would get it soon. I will not be going back there but the security system is active."

I unlocked the house and Paul and Ben unloaded everything into the house. Walking through I looked at everything I would have to go after placing my laptop on the desk. Looking at everyone I said, "Thank you so much for helping me get everything done today. Would you all like to go out to dinner? My treat."

Everyone agreed and we all headed over to a local Greek restaurant to have dinner. We were sitting there having a good time when we heard Andrew and his mom on the other side of the wall. He was complaining because he had to get the last of his stuff. His mom spoke up and said, "Well why don't you sue her. Or go on and slander her books."

Andrew replied, "Sue her? For what mom?"

I heard Amber speak up, "Well she did get rid of all the baby items that we could have used."

I heard Andrew say, "We can't sue her. We were caught Amber and our prenup was iron clad. She made sure to protect herself. Also when I signed it she had a lawyer there to explain everything in the prenup and I had to sign a form stating i understood everything. I got what I needed out of her, I was able to live off of her and take money for years from our joint account. I have some of it saved up so we will be okay. She never realized that she did not shut my access to that account off. We had that account from day one and she labled it mad money. I am going to log into it when I get home to clear it out."

I logged into my phone and set fraud alerts from the day I kicked him out till today. I also moved all the money into my main checking account. I normally deposited 5% of my monthly book sales into that account and the rest to savings. I then walked over to my server and said "can you do me a favor I need cake sent to the table on the opposite side of the wall from me. The man and two woman. I need accounts closed written on it." 

She smiled and said, "Of course Ms Hannah."

I watched her dish up a few slices of cake and write on them. Then I heard Andrew say, "We didn't order cake."

The waitress said, "Oh no Sir this is a gift from another table. The person instructed you read the message on the cake."

She walked away and I heard him say, "Fuck."

I heard Amber go, "Does that mean what I think it does?"

I heard movement and Susan appeared at the table and said, "Do you think your funny?"

Laughing I said, "I am fucking joy to be around."

Andrew came around to the table and asked, "What did you do?"

"Oh I locked the account you have been stealing from and I also set a fraud alert for all those transactions. I also emailed the bank a copy of the divorce agreement so when the vendors you been paying get the information they can come after you for it," I said with a smile on my face.

"Hannah its not my fault you forgot to shut off the card," He said.

"Your right," I said. "But as a grown ass adult you had the choice of not using the account and stealing. So now you will deal with theft charges. I will be contacting the police once I get home. Also you have stuff on the front porch of the old house and I no longer live there so if you do not pick it up and its stolen its no longer my issue."

Ben stood up and said, "Now if you will excuse us we are having a nice family dinner and your bothering us."

Andrew backed down when Paul stood up next to his Dad, "This is not over Hannah."

I stood up and said, "Oh it is and when I get home I will be double checking all the other accounts. If I find any more charges you will be arrested because of of now its over 5 grand and that's grand theft."

Andrew turned on his heal and left. Kelsey looked at me and asked, "Your really calling the police?"

"You bet I am," I said. "He knew he had no access to my accounts and he still stole from the one account I forgot. He is a lazy ungrateful person and I will not deal with this again."

Kelsey said, "Well he fucked around and found out I guess. Are you going to contact the lawyer?"

Looking up I said, "I sure am I am not playing games anymore. If you will excuse me I will be back in a few minutes."

I went out to the patio area and called my lawyer Maggie. She picked up immediately and said, "Hannah, How are you? DO you need to use my likeness for a character in a new book?"

I chuckled and said, "Maggie if I do you will be the first lawyer I call. I actually need to retain your services again."

I heard her groan as she said, "What did he do."

"You remember how I had shut all his access to my accounts off? I have you all the account numbers right?" I said. "Well aparently his access's to the account ending in 7954 never deactivated. Since I made him move out he has taken nearly 50 grand from the account."

"Could you see when those withdraws were made on your account as well as purchases?" She asked.

"Looking back it looks like the first few small withdraws were 1-2 weeks before we went to court, I said. "However, the remaining large withdrawals have all been done since we have been to court. I have been so busy emptying the house that I never thought to double check the account."

"It will be okay Hannah, this is what your going to do," She said. On your online banking for that account do you have option to flag a purchase for fraud?"

Looking at the app I said, "I sure do. I never use this account I have a small percentage of my book sales go into it incase I needed a major appliance or repair. That's why the account name is Oh man it broke."

"That is good to here," She said. "When you get home flag all those transactions and forward me a copy of each transaction. I will go ahead and start a case for this once I receive the information. I will also contact the bank in the morning and verify that he withdrew. Did you have matching pins?"

"No," I said. "The larger withdrawal's were all done at the bank."

Laughing she said, "Wow he must be a idiot to not think this would not be traced back to him. I got you girl."

I walked back inside and joined everyone at the table, "I have my lawyer handling this now. What have I missed?"

Ben laughed and said, "I guess Andrew tried using the card for your old account and it did not work. His Mom had to pay the bill and got real sympathetic stating you would get yours when the time came."

Rolling my eyes I said, "I feel bad for Jessie with everything she has to tolerate due to that woman."

"Does she act that way to Jessie?" Kelsey asked.

"Yes and with Jack dying she has been a royal bitch to her," I said. "But I helped Jessie with that as I was packing so she should be okay and if not I will help her some more in the future."

Kelsey nodded and said, "Are we sure she is even related to them?"

"She is," I said. "But she takes after her Dad. He was a kind hearted man who did not put up with any of Andrew or Susan's shit."

We finished eating dinner and as we ate I started to flag all of the cards fraudulent charges. The following morning I had a text message from Andrew that said, 'What are you doing I am getting fraud charge messages for purchases I made.'

I replied, 'Per the judges ruling and our divorce papers you used an account that should not have been used in the amount of over $50000 since we were divorced. Per lawyers advice I was adv to flag all the charges as fraud as those charges were not mine. You were fully aware you were not to use or touch any of my accounts and stole from me anyway. My lawyer will be contacting the judge this morning because even though I forgot this one account you still willingly stole. Please for any further questions contact my lawyer.'

A few minutes later, 'You are aware I could get put in jail. I hope your very happy with yourself.'

I replied, "I am now, please do not reply I am going to forward this conversation to my lawyer. Remember the last of your things were on the porch last night and I am selling the house in two days so if its not removed it will be trashed tomorrow."

Maggie texted me after I sent her a copy of the conversation with Andrew, Hannah the judge is livid and is given him 14 days to return all funds to the court house. If he does not he will be going to jail. Please let me know if you find any other accounts that could have been missed. I have already went to your bank and they gave me a list of all charges attached to his card when I presented a copy of the divorce decree.

I replied, Thank you and please let me know if you need anything else from me.

After that I got into a groove and started unpacking my house. I was going at a good speed unpacking the kitchen and putting everything away. When I had walked the boxes to the local community recycling bins I heard a man's voice scream, "Look out."

A moment later I felt strong arms around me and we both fell to the ground. Then I heard the squealing of tires and saw a blue SUV take off at break neck speed. When I turned to the person I looked up into beautiful hazel eyes. I shook myself and said, "Thank you."

The man stood up and said, "That car swerved towards you to hit you. I was glad I was out running and got to you before she did. Do you know anyone with a blue SUV."

"No," I said.

"Listen My name is Stephen and I am an officer," He said. "I will walk you to your house after you drop off those boxes. Then I am calling the precinct to report this. That was no accident."

He walked me to the recycle bin and then back to my house. I asked, "My name is Hannah and I just moved in. Will I need to do a report? I did not see anything."

"I will stop by later and ask you some questions," He said. "I am going to report it and go to the community security office to see if there is anything on camera."

"Thank you," I said. "I guess I will load the boxes in my truck and just drive them up next time."

"I will see you soon then," He said and walked off to go to the security office.

Going into the house I called Maggie. When she answered she said, "Girl I was just about to call you. How are you?"

"Someone tried hitting me with a SUV and I was only saved due to a really hot cop names Stephen literally pulling me out of the way," I said.

"Hannah can you please repeat that," She said.

"I know Maggie but here is the long story," I said. "I am fully moved out of the old house. The sale is set for tomorrow at 4pm. So today I started unpacking the house so I can get back to work and plan this RV road trip. I had a bunch of broken down boxes and decided I would get some steps in and walk two stacks of boxes to the recycle center. This recycle center is a block from my house. On my second trip I was heading over and I could not see very well over the pile. I heard a guy yell look out. He grabbed me out of the way as an SUV about hit me. Well I feel for whoever tried to hurt me because he is a cop and was going to security."

"Hannah," Maggie asked. "Do you think this could have been Andrew or Susan?"

Sighing I said, "Maggie I don't know. I will be honest neither have a blue SUV."

"Keep me posted Hannah I an going to do some field work," She said as she ended our call.

During the remainder of the afternoon I continued to unpack my house. Being more cautious I was smart this time and just loaded all the empty boxes into my truck. Right before dinner there was  a knock at the door. When I opened the door the cop I had met earlier that day was standing there in uniform this time. Opening the screen door I said, "Stephen this is a surprise how can I help you?"

"Hello Hannah," He said stepping inside. "I came with some news. We found the owner of the SUV who tried to hit you."

"Oh who was it," I said. 

He looked at me and said, "Her name is Susan Metzer. Do you know her?"

"Yeah I do," I sighed. "She is my ex monster in law."

He chuckled and said, "I take it there are bad feelings?"

"Yes," I said. "The divorce was pretty nasty. My ex also was just caught stealing from an account I forgot to remove him from. There was a drama that played out as he and his mother believe they are entitled to everything I owned. I swear my sister in law is adopted she is the only good one in the bunch."

He chuckled and said, "We all know families like that. Thankfully the neighbors lawn we landed on had security cameras. The door bell camera caught her on video and so did the house across the street. They picked her up at her house about twenty minutes ago."

"So what now?" I asked.

"I need you to fill out a report," He said. "I assume you want to press charges."

"I sure do," I said. "Do you have the form?"

He handed it to me and we went into the house to fill it out. He looked around and asked, "You just moved in?"

"Yes I did," I said. "I finish the sale of my old home tomorrow. Then I am free from the past."

He chuckled and asked, "So I see the RV outside is that part of leaving the past behind?"

"Guilty officer," I said. "I am a writer and I plan on traveling to write. But this will be base camp for when I return home."

"Well I can say I am jealous now," He said. "Do you have any set in stone plans?"

"No not at the moment," I said. "With the sale of the house and my next book being ready to be released I am playing by ear. Although I wanted to go to Yellowstone before they shut it down this year."

"Really," He said. "How long will you be gone?"

"A few weeks," I said. "But do to some things that may be subject to change."

"What do you mean," He asked.

"My Brother In Law is terminal and I know Susan and my ex husband will make it about themselves," I said. "I want to be there for my sister in law and nieces. Even if I only pay for the funeral I want to make sure I am there for them."

"How long does your Brother In Law have?" He asked.

"In November he was given a year," I said. "It's been three months and he is fighting for Jessie and the girls. Thank you for reminding me I was going to offer to take the girls on Saturday since Jessie is off so she can spend time alone with Jack."

"Well if your free Friday night," He said. "Would you like to go get a Pizza with me?"

"As in a date?" I asked.

"Yes," He said. "A date. Unless its to soon since your divorce. I was thinking two people getting to know each other over Mario's Pizza."

"You know what," I said. "That would be great. Besides who am I to turn down Mario's Pizza."

We both chuckled as I said that and then I handed him the form. He looked up and said, "It will not be a conflict of interest because I handed this case off to Detective Montgomery."

We sat talking for a while and after he left I started to unpack again when there was a knock at the door. When I opened it stood Jessie and the girls. They ran in yelling, "Aunt Hannah."

Catching them in my arms I said, "Oh my you have gotten so big."

Jessie was all smiles but I could see how exhausted she was and said, "Girls I set up my play station in my room do you want to go play some?"

They cheered and I showed then to my room. I poured Jessie some coffee and pointed to the outdoor porch. When we got out there I said, "You must have read my mind I was just going to offer to take the girls Saturday through Sunday afternoon." 

"Yes," She said. "OMG yes."

"Okay Sis spill it whats going on?" I said. "Your stressed as can be."

"This morning before Mom was arrested she stopped by," Jessie said. "Jack's home nurse from Hospice was there and Mom coitized everything the nurse was doing. The nurse almost left till I kicked Mom out. Mom told me she is not going  to have anything to do with the girls anymore. My work is going to be pissed I cannot take off that early easpecially after fixing my schedule since you gave me the funds to pay the bills."

"Doesn't the school have before and afterschool care?" I asked.

"Yes but its $100 a week," She said. "Summer camp is a lot more."

"Let me help Jessie," I said. "You told me you have insurance for when Jack does pass. But the girls could benefit from before and afterschool care. Especially now. Lets register them and I will pick them up after school the rest of the week. If you need to drop them here so your not late we can do that as well. We will play summer by ear and see what goes on alright? You know I am not married to your brother but i am still your sister."

She started to cry when Sarah and Megan walked in. Megan ran up to Jessie and said, "It's okay Mommy."

"Girls your Mom was crying because she misses you girls so much when she works," I said. "So Grandma can't watch you anymore. But how would you like to do the before and afterschool program at your school."

"Really," Sarah said. "OMG my friends go there. So does Megan's."

"Alright," I said. "Well lets go get your shoes on because we are going to register you all for the before and after program for the rest of the year."

The girls ran and got their shoes, bringing back my sandals as well. We climbed into Jessies car and headed to the school to register the girls for the program. The school was so accommodating they decided to let the girls start the next day due to the situation. When it came time for payment I paid up till the end of the school year for both girls. The office gave us a discount and sent notes to each of the girls teachers so they would go with the rest of the after care students. The office reminded us snacks and meals are included. Even on days they are here when school is closed. The girls were so excited that they were bouncing when we left the program. I told Jessie to pull into the Chinese restaurant so we can get takeout for dinner. Emphasizing it was a treat and get all the stuff Jack likes. The girls were excited as the restaurant started doing kids meals and they each got one. They even gave the girls their own bag with their food in it. I was impressed.

On the way home I told Jessie about going on a date with Stephen Friday night. She asked if that would change the weekend plans and I told her no as its just Pizza. She laughed and said, "I am glad your going to date. You deserve to be happy and a Cop to boot."

Looking at the girls sneaking pieces of their meal I said, "So do you both want to spend the night with me Saturday?"

"We get to spend the weekend with you," Sarah asked.

"Yup," I said. "I will pick you up before lunch on Saturday and we are going to go get food and shop. Then maybe go swimming in the afternoon. Then we will see what kind of trouble we can get into that night and the following morning."

Megan asked, "Mommy won't you miss us?"

"Of course silly girl," She said. "Mommy is going to stay home and watch movies with Daddy."

The girls took what she said at face value and when I got to the house I told them best behavior at before and afterschool care tomorrow. They gave me a mock salute and I went inside. Throwing the TV on I sat on the couch watching TV while eating some dinner. Pulling my laptop to my lap I checked my accounts and started to see there was money deposited from what Andrew stole. I worked on a couple of projects till I went to sleep that night.

The rest of the week I unpacked everything in the house and organized my camper. By the time Stephen had come to pick me up my house looked like a home again. He came in and said, "Wow Hannah the house really come together."

"Well," I said. "In the morning I am getting my nieces so I wanted them to have it done. Especially with what they are going through."

"Oh?" He asked. 

"My brother in law has cancer," I said. "They are watching him slowly die. I feel for them."

He nodded and said, "Well they are lucky to have you Hannah. Besides Mom and Dad can have some much needed them time."

Nodding I said, "I agree and thankfully now that Susan is in jail I was able to convince Jessie to let me pay for the before and afterschool care at their school. Now Jessie can drop them off and get to work on time along with get them when she gets out. Plus the girls get a break from the Hospice help in the home and I know they love the nurses but it will give them time to be kids."

He nodded and said, "Shall we go? I hear pizza calling our name."

"Pizza yum," I joked. 

We got into Stephens truck and head. Walking inside we were hit by the smell of pizza and garlic. Our stomach's started to growl as we were seated. When we sat down Stephen said, "You pick your favorite and I will pick mine and we can share. Plus then we have leftovers."

When the waitress came I ordered a large BBQ pizza and Stephen ordered a meat lovers. He also put an order in for Garlic Knots, Meatballs and Grilled Vegetable appetizer. When he saw my raised eyebrows he said, "I am starving and you know they are some of the best appetizers this place has."

"Your not wrong," I said. 

We sat talking while we waited for our appetizers to be dropped to us. Getting to know Stephen made me realize I do like him. After we started to eat the appetizer I heard, "Be careful everyone thats everyones favorite writer Hannah Montclair if she doesn't like you she will have you arrested."

"Oh lord," I said. "Stephen it looks like my Ex-Husband is here and he is drunk."

He took my hand and said, "It's okay Hannah. My ex-wife is the same way."

Andrew stumbled over to us and said, "Do you feel like a good person Hannah? My Mom was arrested and I am facing jail with a baby on the way. You know the baby you could not give me."

Stephen said, "Andrew leave Hannah alone your drunk and the police just arrived. Do yourself a favor and call a cab to go home."

He waved his hand in Stephens face and said, "Stay out of this. She ruined everything I lost the money I could have gotten from her. My mom can't give me money because she tried to take Hannah out. Now my WIFE is mad because I do not have a good job."

The officers walked over and said, "Come on man your disturbing the diners. Lets go get some air outside."

It finally dawned on Andrew that he was in trouble and he said, "Yeah yeah lets go outside. This is not over Hannah."

When he was taken outside the waitress brought our pizza's over to us and said, "He has been here all week. Works next door and gets drunk at the bar. Sorry Hannah that he targeted you this time."

"Its alright Sherry," I said. "It was handled without a fuss."

Stephen said, "Well that was fun. Do not worry Hannah it doesn't make me look at you different. So where were we?"

We ate and talked for a few more hours. When it was time to go we split all the leftovers and headed out to Stephens truck. We were in his truck when my phone started to ring. I said, "I have to take this I am sorry."

He nodded and said, "Go ahead."

"Hello," I answered.

"Hannah," Jessie cried. "I am so sorry to bother you on your date. We are following the ambulance now to the hospital can you meet me there to take the girls."

"Jessie," I said putting her on speaker. "What happened?"

"It's Jack," she said between tears. "He was watching TV with the girls and his heart monitor went off. The hospice nurse checked on him and he coded."

Stephen asked, "Which hospital?"

"Mercy Grace," She said. 

"We are on our way," Stephen said.

"Jessie be calm and drive safe we are almost there," I said. 

"The kids will be in the waiting room with Kaddy," she said. "She is the nurse." 

As we pulled up to the emergency room Stephen said, "I will park and come in to help with the kids."

When I walked into the ER the Hospice nurse pointed to the bereavement room and my heart dropped. Knocking a chaplain answered the door and I said, "I was told my sister is in here."

He opened the door so I could come in and Jessie rushed into my arms saying, "Hannah Jacks gone they could not save him."

Holding her I said, "Oh Jessie I am so sorry. Do not worry I am here to do whatever you need."

She leaned against me and said, "It's to soon. We didn't get to say goodbye and the girls saw him pass."

"Jessie," I said. "Jacks last moments were with you all. He passed away surrounded by his family I am sure he was happy just spending time with you and the girls."

The Chaplain said, "We have to do some paperwork. Do you know which funeral home Jack was going to go to."

Jessie sat down and said, "We were planning on discussing everything while Hannah had the kids tomorrow. Hannah we didn't even talk about the plans or how we were going to pay for it."

"Jessie what did I tell you," I said. "Do not worry about the costs. Those are already covered." 

Looking at the Chaplain I said, "I will be covering the costs please have his body go to Brewers Memorial."

Jessie looked up and said, "He wanted to be cremated."

"That's fine Jessie," I said. "You have to decide if you want to have the funeral first so people can say goodbye."

"Oh god the girls," She said starting to stand up.

"Jessie they are fine," I said. "Kaddy is in the lobby with them and Stephen is there as well. We have to do a few things and then we will go to my house for the night so Kaddy can clean up the mess at your house or we can in the morning. We will go to the funeral home in the morning. But we need to call Jacks parents. Do you want me to go call them?"

"Would you do that for me?" She asked.

"Yes," I said. Turning to the Chaplain I asked, "Can you please have them bring the paperwork so Jessie can sign what she needs to and I can take them home to rest?"

The Chaplain said, "Yes of course."

I snuck past the girls as they were sleeping and Kaddy stood up and said, "Jessie was so out of it she did not realize I was driving my car. Normally what happens now is I take the family home and clean up the mess."

"Thank you Kaddy," I said. "I am going to have Jessie and the girls come to my house for the night and then we are going to go to the funeral home in the morning."

Stephen said, "We will bring them to your house when they are ready. You can continue on with your job."

Kaddy said, "Thank you. Hannah is your address the new one Jessie gave me yesterday."

"Bay Ave," I said.

"Yes it is," I said. 

"Okay I am going to clean up the mess from the paramedics," She said. "I will make a bag of clothes for the girls and Jessie and drop them off to your house so they can change in the morning. Also I will call Jessie in the morning and when your ready I will watch the girls while you take Jessie to make the arrangements."

"Thank you," I said. Turning to Stephen I said, "Thank you."

"Hey," He said. "We will look back on this in a few weeks and think this is one hell of a first date. But I know you have a call to make I will watch the girls."

Walking outside I sat on a bench and called Jacks Dad. He answered on the second ring and said, "Hannah girl its been a long time. Did you ditch Jessie's brother and decide to give me a chance."

"Hey Howard," I said. 

"I guess Jessie is in the hospital with Jack," He said. "Give it to me straight."

"Howard I am so sorry," I said. "Jessie is a wreck that's why I am calling."

"Be honest with me Hannah," He said. "Did my boy suffer?"

"No Howard," I said. "He fell into a deep sleep watching a movie with the girls and Jessie. He was right where he wanted to be."

"Good," He said. "Did you call Dee yet?"

"Not yet," I said.

"Who is it Howard," I heard a voice say. 

"Its Hannah Marty," Howard said as he started crying and said, "Jacks gone my love. My boy is gone."

Marty came on the line and said, "Thank you for calling us first. We will go over and tell Dee and Frank. What about Jessie and the girls?"

"Jessie is in the hospital right now filling out paperwork," I said. "The girls are sleeping and my date is watching them while I help Jessie get things handled."

"What about arrangements," He said. "We do not have much but we will help however we can."

"Marty stop," I said. "I have it handled. Jessie and the girls will be okay. I might not be with Andrew anymore but she is still my sister and I loved Jack like a brother. You know I would never let anything slip through the cracks."

"You are an amazing woman Hannah," He said. "Tell Jessie Mom and Dads are on our way to help her however we can."

Smiling I said, "Let me know the details when your on your way. I will pick you all up."

"Thank you lovey we will see you all soon," Marty said and hung up.

Walking back in Jessie was coming out of the Chaplains office. I hugged her and said, "Howard and Marty are going to tell Dee and Frank face to face."

"Thank you Hannah," She said. "Where is Kaddy?"

"She drove you Jessie," I said. "She went back to the house and is going to clean up. When she is done she will lock up and is going to drop off clothes for you and the girls. In the morning she is going to watch the girls when we go to the funeral home to make the plans. I think for tonight you are going to come to my house and rest. Jessie this is Stephen."

He shook her hand and said, "I am so sorry that we had to meet like this. But if you need anything just ask."

"Thank you," She said. "How are we getting home?"

"Stephen is going to drive us," I said. "We were on our way home when you called."

She picked up Sarah and I picked up Megan. When we got to the truck Stephen said, "Sorry the truck smells like pizza."

"Oh that smells good," She said.

Stephen handed her his box after we strapped the girls in and said, "Help yourself. When we got here I figured if the girls wake up she might need both boxes."

When we got to the house I carried Megan in and laid her on the guest bed. Walking out of the room Stephen put the pizza on the counter. Jessie said, "Thank you again Stephen."

When she went into the room with the girls I walked Stephen out and said, "Well this has been a night."

He said, "Well this is a first date I will always remember. Even with everything that happened tonight I want to have a second date before you start to travel. But I understand things will be busy for you for a few days. I will call you tomorrow to see how things are going."

"Thank you," I said tip toeing to kiss his cheek. 

He leaned down and gave me a better kiss and said, "Take care of them Hannah. They are sure lucky to have you."

I watched Stephen leave and as he did Kaddy pulled up. She handed me a bag and said, "I am slated only for helping Jessie tomorrow so just give me a call when you have a time and I will be here."

"Thank you Kaddy," I said. "You are a godsend."

She handed me Jessies spare key and said, "Jack was a sweet man and I am glad Jessie and the girls have you. Her mother is a bitch and Jessie does not need that."

"Don't worry Kaddy," I said. "Jessies in laws are on their way and they will not let Susan do anything to her."

When Kaddy left I went inside and Jessie was sitting on the back porch with a piece of pizza. I grabbed another slice and joined her. We sat in silence until she said, "I do not know what I am going to do."

"One foot in front of the other," I said. "You have Dad's Mom and I to help you."

When we woke up the following morning I called the funeral home to see when we could come in to make arrangements. As the girls and Jessie were still sleeping I kept the house quiet and went into my office to work. I was surprised when the phone rang as it was Stephen.

"Hello," I said.

"Hey Hannah," He said. "How is Jessie and the girls holding up?"

Sighing I said, "They are still sleeping."

"Well if you go to your front door I got you all breakfast," He said. "You mentioned you were going to take the girls food shopping as you did not have a lot of food that was kid friendly."

"Thank you so much," I said. "I know they will appreciate it. I do have to call the caregiver to get her here and to wake Jessie. Can I call you a bit later?"

"Of course," He said. "I go in at three today but you can leave me a message if I don't answer and I will call you back."

We said our goodbyes and I went to the front door and found donuts, breakfast sandwiches, juice for the girls and coffee for us. He was so sweet to do this. As I brought everything in I thought about pursuing a relationship with him if we worked out. As I went into the kitchen Jessie was coming out of the guest room.

"Hey Jessie," I said. "I spoke to the funeral home and we can go over anytime. I was just going to call Kaddy to arrange babysitting."

"Thank you," She said. "You have no clue how much I appreciate you. You went and got us breakfast?"

"No I did not," I said. "This is courtesy of Stephen. He dropped it off and called me."

"Hannah," She said. "You deserve to be happy."

"I know," I said. "Its a new chance and I am going to go with it. But I will take it at snails pace. But for now we worry about what has to be done. If you want you can shower in my bathroom I will call Kaddy and get her up to speed."

Sitting down at the table I grabbed a coffee and a breakfast sandwich. After I called Kaddy I received a text message from Marty and got the flight information I told them I would pick them up tonight when they arrived. I called the airline and arranged for everyone to be placed together. Then I also upgraded their tickets to business class to give them more privacy. Jessie went to go get ready and by the time she was done Kaddy arrived. Grabbing my purse I made sure my wallet was still in the bag and pulled cash out so Kaddy could order the girls lunch. Then Jessie and I left to go arrange Jacks funeral.
